So do I get to ask what the Companion is?
I know nothing of modding or how to use it. I figure I gotta beat the AI before I start asking around for more trouble, lol.

The companion is an application that can launch your games with a double click, straight into the game, so no choosing savegame and then player and perhaps password entering, all can be preset in the companion.
It can use different mods, giving you a list to choose from, you just unpack a mod to a directory in the SE4 directory and it will hopefully find it for you.
(You don't need any knowledge in modding to use modded games, they are just different data files for the games that alters the game experiance).
It handles mods aswell and easy access to multiplayer games at PBW. Several different savegame directories can be used, multiple instances of different Versions of SE 4 (1.67 - 1.91).
It can give you individual music lists for each game (MP3, WAV or MIDI songs).
A text editor that can be opened automaticly when you start a game, where you with a click can insert game data such as empire names, stardates etc.
It can start any program or file you want it to when you start a game, excel spreadsheet, paint for storing maps..
An event editor where you can enter events (Copy in-game Messages) and then see them in the future in the game, ie keeping a history record in the game.
It has easy access to some plug-ins that can help you with various problems with shipsets, download shipsets from the PBW server etc.
It connects to the SpaceEmpires IRC channel without you needing any knowledge on IRC.
It can scan your mailbox for incoming mail and delete nag mails from PBW and some other mail functions aswell (Unpack multiplayer zipped games, mail finished turns etc)
It can alert you when you are close to deadline in multiplayer games.
And some other small functions aswell that I don't remember now.
It's basicly a modlauncher with some more code that can give errors..but not all that many bugs left though..
Try it at:

Where you also can find the Leisure plugin pack that contains 2 SE4 action games and a shipset screensaver (By Ed Marshal and SJ)
