Weapon selection screen
Hello all,
What a great game this is, after downlaoding it a couple of weeks ago if I am not working or sleeping than I am playing this game.
I have a question about the weapon selection screen (the one you get when you hit the "W" key during a battle). I select a certain weapon, (say a Hellfire missle) but it does not seem to effect anything. The Apache will still cycle through and use every weapon it has even if it will not effect the target (30mm Ap and or a 2.75in rocket isn't very effective against a MBT). What am I doing wrong? It is driving me crazy having M1's and M2's engageing targets with weapons that have no effect. i.e. Ma duece or M242 against MBT's. I was a Bradley gunner in the Army and we knew what weapon to use to enagage a target.
But this is a great game, its nice to have a war game that deals with modern vehicles and tactics.

Re: Weapon selection screen
In the individual vehicle screen (accessed by hitting the space bar when the vehicle is clicked on) you can activate or deactivate individual weapons by clicking on them.
Active weapons are yellow inactive are blue.
But it's not a very subtle or time effective way to do things, since you have to go back before ending the turn and reactivate weapons you might want to use to defend yourself if a bunch of enemy infantry show up on their turn.
Is there a more simple elegant way to do this?

Re: Weapon selection screen
The "W" key brings up a page where you can select one weapon slot to fire at the current target.
If you do not have a target selected (you already fired at it, or you used the T key to select), or the weapon parameters (e.g range) are off, then nothing will happen.
(About the only use I have for this old screen is when a rifle section is next to an AFV and I want to ensure it fires say the 84mm MAW without attempting to close assault the target, asuming the section was not pinned.)
Cheers

Re: Weapon selection screen
IIRC you have to use the number keys above your keyboard, not the keypad on the right.

Re: Weapon selection screen
This may be corny, but using the imagination, you could almost see your unit's crew in action...say it's a tank, and you spot an enemy tank. You hit the T key, and as you click on the enemy tank, the commander is barking his order, "Gunner! Sabot...tank" and the gunner replies "Identified!"...as you press the 1 key, the gunner is pressing an identical button for main gun APDS...the loader yells "Up!" and the commander yells "Fire!"...
Did I just stumble on a new feature for WinSPMBT? Digitized voice clips? In multiple languages, with nation-appropriate commands? This could extend to artillery...forward observers calling specific types of fire...battery fire orders...even fighter-bombers "rolling in"...
This may introduce a bit of the "human" feel that is missing in such wargames, to remind players that these are representative of living people. Might make one be less callous with their units, who knows...
