what DO needs
a map editer. the maps don't give much of that 'what's around the corner' feeling human made maps do.

Re: what DO needs
There is a 'map editor' Only in DO it's called the 'Tilegen' program.
When you run DO with the command line option -tilegen the editor will be run. (when you right-click on the dungeon odyssey shortcut and select 'properties' add the -tilegen option to the end of the 'target' path. It should look something like this.
D:\DUNGEO~1\DungOdy.exe -tilegen
This program allows you to create a bunch of 15x15 tile groupings that are then used to create a map. Think of it as building a map one on-screen square at a time. (15x15 tiles in size.)
The docs explain better than I can. It is indeed possible to make your own maps.
Hope this tid-bit helps. Cheers!

Re: what DO needs
well, DO -tilegen is rather stupid that way. It only looks for .txt files in the main directory to be loaded as tiles. If you have not done any tiles before, the history.txt is the only one.
yes, tiles are normaly placed at random. but you can also put them on fixed locations.
2: sorry, no short answer for that. have you checked out the manual, yet? I think Aaron did a good job explaining how to start and also all the lines of the data files are explained.

Re: what DO needs
thanks.
yeah, the manual's good. i was just thinking a short tutorial that takes you through making a small mod, maybe adding one of everthing, monster, item, shop, tile, to one of the default mod's.

@narf poit chez BOOM
I've to agree with you. I would love to create just a small little mood but the manual is as per my opinion just for hard core modder only.
A little step-by-step tutorial would do good!
