As for AI the most effective work around to this problem so far is to simply use an American instead, they tend to put up a bit more of a fight than your average Artificial Idiot.

Hm. I'd noticed in in the binary, but never managed to get that message in-game.
Perhaps if you cure the feeblemind, he'll have gained (at least?) a point of death magic proficiency?

This is normal. Twiceborn DOES have a chance of giving you +1D, but, as you know, dying tends to cause afflictions. If you kill the unit by drowning it, for instance, it will always have an affliction. Kind of strange, the idea of drowning your arm off.
I don't see any real developer sadism at work here, you were just so exceptionally lucky that your affliction on death was "feebleminded". Give him some time under the Chalice or GoH, and he'll be back to normal with his +1D.
Otherwise, congratulations. He's now useless.

I think you've missed the point, which is that the combo of Messages is funny as heck. The irony of "greatly increased understanding" and being feebleminded.

Maybe, but that's not the DEVELOPER being humorous, that's just humorousness occurring due to random chance.
