Tech from planet conquering?
Do you get free tech from conquering planets? I always glass em because it's a lot easier than building troops (I haven't even seen a ground battle yet!

No you don't. Only boarding ships is of any use. You get techs(one per area in which the nme was more advanced than you) if you can convince the enemy to surrender.

You get Technology if a race surrenders to you. However, chances are by the time you convince them to surrender, you may have already surpassed them unless you took a very different research strategy.

Re: Tech from planet conquering?
Boarding is not the only way to get a ship. I use Crew Insurrection (intel II) and many others use the Psychic tech weapon Allegience Subverter or something like that. Then the only trick is to get it to a Space Yard. I keep a DN with a SY close by any empire I'm attacking just for that reason. I rarely ever research Beam Weapons, Armor, or Torpedo Weapons. The AI does the research for me and I just grab the ships and analyze them.

No, you don't get any technology for conquering a planet, and that's why it's easier to just vaporize your enemies. We've been asking MM to allow this somehow, perhaps by allowing facilities to be "analyzed" like ships. You'd then have an incentive to capture planets rather than 'glass' them.

Re: Tech from planet conquering?
Someone mentioned Alligiance Subverters & I remembered a question I had.
The AS has a damage amount & range just like any other wpn, but the question is what does that damage mean? Is it related to the chance that the ship will convert? Is the converting a seperate roll from damage and if so, how are the chances of converting the ship successfully determined? Does the ship/fleet experience count? Does shields/Armor/ECMs/other defensive componets affect the chance to convert? Does the size of the ship matter (say 1 crew component vs 2 or more?)?
any help would be appreciated

Re: Tech from planet conquering?
Well I can only answer a little of that. The Last patch eliminated the former crew experience of captured ship. I would guess before that it was retained. I don't think that having more crew on board would help against the allegiance subverter but having a master computer instead will make you immune to it.

Re: Tech from planet conquering?
Hrm. Maybe you don't get tech from capturing planets because there are so many of 'em (compared to MoO2, at least, there seem to be more, and they're clustered, sometimes with 10+ colonies in the same system versus no more than 5)?
But maybe it should give a probability of tech, even if it's only a slight one, and restricted to whatever facilities were used. Or maybe apply not as a full tech level, but as a small RP bonus.
OTOH, one could get pretty creative with bonuses, basing it on the dominant use of the planet --
Production/Storage: Loot resources.
Intelligence: Possibility of free 1-time Intelligence Sabotage if you have the intel level to understand that op.
Research: Gain a small amount of RPs in a Category where they're ahead of you, perhaps constrained to being their current area of research.
in addition to the more universal possibilities of tech-in-use (from facilities, chance of RP bonus) to empire information (census data, chart of nearby system, etc).
