Default Hyper Optics vs. Tachyon Sensors

Does it really matter which one you have? Either one can still see a ship with a cloaking device. It appears that Hyper Optics are cheaper to get so logically they are the way to go. What do you guys think? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either one?

Count up the number of research points that are "out of your way" (ie. not researched for some other useful component).

Actual price is probably not a big concern, since you only need one per system, vs the piles of ships you need to fight all those cloaked enemies you'll see

I prefer hyper optics as well. I haven't added up all the research points to see which is cheaper in total to research, but the military science branch has some really usefull stuff along the way. Point defense, ship capture, training facilities...

There is also a difference in the cost to build and maintain the component.

Personally I use the Gravimetric devices (at least I think thats what they're called). I tend to research Null Space guns early on and that tech seems to be a convenient by-product....IIRC...
