Newbie
Hi, fellow enthusiasts.
Couple of Queries which I hope you experienced players will be able to answer:
1) My ship warps into a system. The same or next turn it is attacked. Even though the warp point is shown on the tactical screen there appears to be no way for it to escape (being an unarmed explorer type vessel). Does it have to engage in combat with the inevitable consequences ??
2)Is it possible to drop satellites in space, other than always orbiting a planet? I have tried to do this using a transporter vessel but it won't allow me to do so.
3) I don't understand ship movement on the tactical combat screen. e.g. My ship has six engines but it is only allowed to move three spaces. Is it therefore two engines per movement point ?? If so, what happens when you are reduced to three or five ???
4) Is there a downloadable faq available anywhere, which I could use as a reference ??
Hope you can assist.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Re: Newbie
Hi,
There is no retreat from combat.
You can deploy satelites anywhere, you need to build a ship with satelite bays. A transport can be use and will allow you to carry extra satelites around but any ship with a bay can deploy them.
In tactical combat you move 1/2 your normal movement rounded up. If you lose certain components your movement drops, engines, bridge etc.
Check the mod section for FAQ'S, there are a few guides there.
I think this is all correct, if not someone will let you know.

Re: Newbie
1. There is no way to escape combat unless you can stay out of weapons range of the attacking vessel for 30 turns.
2. Yes, you will need to design and build a ship with satallite launch pod component. When the ship has loaded some satallites new icons will be available on the toolbar (launch / retrieve, launch remotely, recover). Either move to where you want to launch the sats or click launch remotely and click where you want the sats.
3. Tactical movement is equal to half your strategic movemnt rounded up (I think). If you lose engines, you'll lose movement very fast.
4. Um. There was a group working on a beter manual, the only thing available now is the 'dubious strategy' guide (I think that's the name) from the mods download area.

Re: Newbie
1. Nope, once in tactiacl mode, there is no retreat. Your options are to sit and take it or try to run circles around him and make it throuugh 30 turns. If you have a speed advantge its possible.
2. Should not be a problem. Use the "launch units remotly" button.
3. Tactical combat movement is half of strategic movement, rounded up to the next whole number. If you start with 6 engines you have 3 movement points. Once your second engine is destroyed your speed drops to 2, and so on.
4. Nothing official. A lot of fan sites have strategy tips. Try Hyperionbase.com for starters, or keep reading these forums. There was some talk a few weeks ago about some people putting together a comprehensive how-to guide, but I haven't heard much lately.

Re: Newbie
There is a strat guide in the mod section that answers alot of questions.
As for the attack, You can not excape was combat begans. You can run around and hope that your ship is faster then the attacking ship. Most of the time you will lose the unarmed ship. I personally ram my unarmed ships into the attacker. If I am going to lose it, maybe I can damage the enmey ship and they have to go back for repairs.
I did this with a large transport and the two ships got stuck together. Neither exploded. At the end of combat we both had un movable ships.
As for dropping sats in space, You can do this. You have to built a ship with Sat bays.

Re: Newbie
You can ram ships that don't have those kamikaze or mine explosives? and it does damage?
I thought it was just if you had a ship with a explosive warhead. Thats nice to know though

Re: Newbie
Yup, you can. For some reason though, I never seem to get decent results out of ramming, even with a warhead- ESPECIALLY with a warhead, really. It never seems to do the rated damage.

Re: Newbie
Yea, Just the other day I had a planet that an allie had parked 3 destroyers over. He keep them there for over 50 turns. Since We we partners and it looked like we had good relations,I took my fleet that also was parked over the planet and moved to the war front. As soon as my fleet was out of range my allie broke the treaty and attacked the planet. I had 2 colony ships, two small mine layer transports, 3 small sat layer transports and a large pop transport, one escort in orbit. Since the AI always attacks the strongest they started to attack the planet. MY unarmed ships actually defended the planet and took out all 3 destroyers. It was costly, 75m people died and we lost all ships except for the large transport. When it ram the ships it never exploded. The two seem to merge together and the enemy ship then could not move.
Ships with shields are alot less likely to to take any damage when you ram them. It takes quite a few ram ships to take out a shielded ship and you have to do all the hits together. (in the same turn)

One other technique: If you can get directly across the warp point from the enemy ship, you can mirror every move he makes and usually survive for the 30 turns.
