For those of you who know me kinda well, you know that I lost my sister to a car accident in July 93. Since that time I have listened to literally thousands of songs looking for the right one to express how that lose made me feel. Made all of my feel. Well Saturday, ironically at the funeral of my great aunt, a song was played in her memory that did just that.
Sissy's Song by Alan Jackson. (youtube video)
It is a powerful song written for the family of a young women who had worked for Alan and his wife who happened to die suddenly. Alan wrote the song because he felt something needed to be said about this young women that hadn't already been said.
When I heard the song, I began to break down, not for my great aunt whom I loved dearly, but for my sister. It was as if I were being told that she isn't going to be alone any more. And God you don't know how emo that can make one feel. Overwhelmed is a good word for it.
The song says it all. It is simply one of the most brilliantly written songs that I have ever listened too. I hope you'll listen to it and understand why feeling so lost in side can hurt so much.
