Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
The "figurehead" is taken a little bit too far, I think. The segmented look to imitate the "clinkerbuilt" design of a viking longship is much more promising. It would be more effective if it were "longitudinal" like the original clinkerbuilt ships. Would be amusing to put a solar sail on them by default (and have the race always research solar harnessing and use them). The hammer as a space station design is pretty good.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Those are neat pictures. Doing them in 3D in Moray would be tough, at least for me. It would take a good Moray person to carve the head just right

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Thanks for the encouraging responses.
Dracus: That was intentional, imagine seeing that coming towards you in battle=-)
Baron: Points taken on board. I have considered going horizontal rather than vertical but I think it would just accentuate the flawed perspective. I might try to do something with it when I get to the colouring stage. As for the figurehead, I know what you mean, I think I will experiment with some smaller ones. Oh, and I always intended to put sails on, although I wasn't necessarily going to put them into the AI. I might though...
I'll use this thread to give notification of updates to the page.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
A small update - I've added a prototype racial portrait. Still no colour.
Haven't had much time to work on the ships lately, but I will be doing more soon. I haven't forgotten your suggestions either, Baron.

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Vikings in space? Now that's an odd idea... I like it. ;-)
Hrmmm, maybe their AI should use boarding parties and troops...

Re: Space Vikings sneak preview
Great Idea, it's an old classic.
The ships look cool and are certainly original.
I look forward to seeing the finished result.
