Default AI_Construction_Facilities.txt


I had a couple of questions regarding this file.

1.Does the Last two lines (Facility 23) really ask to construct generate 100 mineral facilities.

2.If yes to question 1, does this option ever get used?

3.At the beginning of the game and the AI unable to build the more advanced options listed below, does it just settle and build the mineral facilities (Question 1 & 2) until all the room is used up?

4.How does the AI go about upgrading any of these built facilities?

AI State := Exploration, Infrastructure, Prepare for Attack, Attack, Secure Holdings After Attack, Incursion, Prepare for Defense, Defend (Short Term), Defend (Long Term), Not Connected

I will try and answer as best as I can (a lot of this has been through trial, error and assumptions)

1.Does the Last two lines (Facility 23) really ask to construct generate 100 mineral facilities.

Yes - unless directed to scrap and rebuild an additional facility. Unknown what is the trigger.

2.If yes to question 1, does this option ever get used?

Yes, but again I cannot say for certain what the trigger is, other than I have seen the Darloks do what I want them to do.

3.At the beginning of the game and the AI unable to build the more advanced options listed below, does it just settle and build the mineral facilities (Question 1 & 2) until all the room is used up?

Yes

4.How does the AI go about upgrading any of these built facilities

Based on trigger as above.

You might want to download a couple of the mods and compare their files to the default to see what people have tweaked.

Ok here it goes:

1) When AI is building facilities it goes in order specified in that file, meaning he will first build the facility 1 if he can, then 2 and so on. The Last one (in this case 23) is usually used to fill up the unused spaces after all the other facilities are built (that's what 100 is for).

2) This option is used mostly by AI on large planets with lots of free space on them.

3) AI will build a facility if he has researched it. If that facility has system wide effect and he already has one in the system, he won't build another (e.g. he will build only one space port).

4) He simply upgrades them just like human player. Also, he does that as soon as he acquires necessary tech to upgrade.

Yes the AI does seem to upgrade existing facilities with no problem but it doesn't seem to ever revisit older planets and change the type of facilities there. It should for example build some of the facilities gained from the computer field to maximize the mining, resource, or intell operations when the technology becomes available and there are a certain number of the right facilities already on the planet.

I think I've figured out a way to do this. I'll keeping testing make sure.
