Default Mixed aircraft formations Q

Is there any specific reason for balancing or otherwise why aircraft formations are not mixed? Wouldn't it still be balanced if the resulting number was under 2-4? I'm just curious.

The game (and the allocation of flights) is based on the premise that air strike points are sections of 2 (sometimes 3 e.g. japanese WW2) strike planes of the same type. Bombers may be in flights of 4 planes.

By all means if rolling your own OOB, mix planes and make 10 plane squadrons if it floats your boat. But then your opponent may well howl, if he had 2 flights (and so 4 planes) and you got 2 as well - but bought 20 aircraft in 2 10 plane squadrons..

Cheers
Andy

Okay, so I'll stick with it for the purposes of my own OOB, because I'm still keeping the number under 4, specifically for these reasons.
