Default OT:Inceribly dull!

At work, nothing happens.
Half a million people in my district, and I'm the only radiologist...
The Last 8 hours I've had perhaps 30 patients, mostly chest x-rays.. not much to do!
Much better when cases stream in, time goes fast.
I want more and exciting examinations, a couple of hand on exams, ultra-sound, fluoroscopy or such and my joy returns.
What are people doing? Ain't no one driving their cars today?? No accidents?? No fighting, come on!!
(This must be the slowest saturday I've ever experianced!)

And almost no Posts on the Shrapnel forum, all internet newspapers read, all lists of cases from the week fixed and the chores for monday done aswell..
No Posts at the PBW development forum for ages.
Read all my usual sites and some unusal aswell.

Please post, I'll be stuck here for 16 more hours, need something to do!!!

I remember I got an xray once...for kidney stuff. In those days, they used iodine (I think they use something else these days).

Anyway, there I was looking at the xrays with the guy who snapped the "pics". There was a good shot of my large intestine (or colon if you prefer). He pointed to the darkest parts and told me those were farts on the way and that the slightly lighter "lumps" were poop.

Looking back now, I'd have to say that was my most exciting xray ever!

Yes, it's quite interesting.

( we still use iodine for a lot of exams, including kidneys)

I really like colon exams, where I fill the patient with barium enema and air thriough the rectum and examines the colon, really nice pictures!!

I've had an X-Ray once when i cracked some bones in my shoulder, was rather uneventful really.

But to keep you ammused here's a story for Ruatha about hospitals.

When i was a kid (2 or 3 years old) i was a real pain in the ***, temper tantrums really couldn't sum it up. Maybe i was hyper or something i don't know, but i really was the worst kid to get annoyed.

So when i had to go to hospital to get stitches removed from my lip they were ready for me (the dog had bitten me the week before)

I was taken to a room with 4 grown men doctors when the surgeon guy came in, he was to take the stitches out. He looked at me, the 4 doctors and the General Anasthetic they had prepared and shouted "What!!! can't you 4 men handle a child??" and went to hold me down and take them out.

Half an hour later he admitted defeat, after much screaming, punching, kicking and every dirty trick a 3 year old child can do. He called The 4 doctors over and they helped him pin me down and they gave me the anasthetic to knock me out so they could remove these stitches.... Apparently one or two of them went home with bruises LOL. Also my parents tell me the trip when i went to have the stitches PUT IN the first place was even worse, My Mother hasn't told me that story yet

A wonderful story from my childhood to keep you all ammused. I'm glad to say that i avoid hospitals whenever nessercary and have grown out of that stage years ago

Thanks for posting.

Not every kid is calmed even by my calming presence.
I've found that a drink with medazolam (Dormicum (tm)) added can make the worst kid happy!
I still haven't gotten any bruises, but one never knows, so far negotiations have worked in most cases, very few were we've had to use force, and those are all failures really! (not the kids but our work )

You must jump for joy when you hear the likes of a pile-up or a bus crash.

Nah, that's too much.
But a stomach that pains and no-one knows why, that I like, ultrasound is fun.
And intervention, all those catheters in and out through the vessels getting them where you want, that's fun.
Otherwise anything goes when you're on call, a steady stream of patients but not too many at a time, that's ideal.
I don't mind the many chest x-rays as long as there's something else aswell.

But I still must say, it's the most fun work I've ever had and I've tried a wide variety of occupations.

Now I've had some to do, a MC accident with head to toe exam, and a kidney exam, some chest x-rays, and a lot of bones.
Now new staff has come, so now I can tell todays jokes the third time (The third shift of nurses)!

If you're still bored, try out Sodaplay. The idea is to link lines together to form shapes and objects that you can then give movement too (including turning off gravity). If you need some hints, check out the Zoo and see some of the stuff other people have done.

/Me pictures ruatha randomly poisoning people's food, slowly dropping droplets of an unknown liquide into trays of food when nobody's looking.

/Methinks TerranC should call the Linghem Police
