Default Charming enemy commander - bug?

In one of my games I just had a large battle. During that battle several of my nature 3 mages were wearing Master Matrix and several +penetration items. They were further boosted by 8 communion slaves.

I've put them in the front to cast Charm on enemy SCs. Also I have used Mists of Deception during this battle, mostly to try to hinder escaping enemy mages.

To my delight, 2 of very nice enemy SCs got charmed during the course of this battle (1 GOR-ed Tarasque and one SC demon).

By the end of the battle these two were fighting on my side, and they have easily survived the battle. However after the battle these commanders were nowhere to be found! I got few charm enemy soldiers, but that's all. No new SCs for me.

Why? Is the charm spell bugged? Is it because Mist of Deception bugged? What the heck happened to my war trophies?

Did you check on the troops? Charmed commanders loose comander status so you need to GOR them again.

You are confusing Charm with Enslave. When charmed they supposed to keep their commander status, items and magic.

Have you checked other provinces? Sometimes my charmed guys don't end up where I think they would. I can't think of anything obvious that would cause this though.

Have you tried clicking the difficult to see arrows next to your commander screen? Maybe they are just not displayed.

Yes, to both questions.

I've checked nearby provinces and I've scrolled though the list of all my commanders. There is no trace of these charmed SCs.

Maybe it's related to the replay bug? The one where the replay shows one outcome, but in your game something entirely different actually happens.

Check battle report as well. You can get a negative value here if you charm more than you lose. If you lost none, and charmed two and there is not a negative you might be the victim of the replay bug.

Thank you for the reply Kristoffer. Unfortunately it is almost impossible for me to be 100% sure that if I have lost any commanders or not - I had 54 commanders in the battle all over the place, many with mirror images, and arrows and spells were flying all over the place for 20 turns.

However I don't think I have lost any commanders. And I had indeed zero change in commander numbers in summary screen.

More important, after reading your reply I took a very close look at the battle and I think you are right. There were 2 naga units that enemy had. According to my replay I've killed them both, but after battle I had one nage charmed.

So it looks like it may be indeed a reply bug. I remeber seeing it long time ago at Dom2, when host and clients were using different patches or different OS. But this is not the case in our game (DangerPudding). So why did this bug happen to me?

This bug can occur during SP or MP games even when all players are perfectly patched with the correct version. To investigate and fix the issue we'll need to find a ways of reproducing the bug... then we can answer why it happens and possibly get it fixed.
