couple of NEWBIE questions
First off I wouuld like to say SE4 is pretty damn good. Ive played SE3 and liked that so I just got SE4. Now to the Questions. 1). In SE3 you were able to tell your ministers that did ship design what kind of weapons you perfered (ie torpedo/beam). I dont see that luxury in SE4....am I missing something or is the game? 2). Ive noticed that the AI seems to like to pick fights often....I've been in many partnerships and for no Apparent reason they break the treaty and declare war....Is this a Bug? Thank you for listning!

1) Each race has individual AI_design.txt file. In all ship designs there is a list which specifies what weapons will be used on this particular design and how wepons should be changed along research progress. By editing this file, you can add multipple designs with different weapons. Best fan-made AI (collected in TDM-ModPack) often have fleets with ships equiped with different weapons.
2) You can play with AI aggression by editing race specific AI_anger and AI_politics files. You can make them either total pacifists or berzerk xenophobes.

How long into the game is this happening? You might be crossing the Mega Evil Empire threshholds.
There are entries in Setting.txt to either turn off MEE, or change the trigger conditions.
The other possibility is that the Partnership allows them to see all your colonies, which can upset them if they colonize the same planet type. This is one of the things that's set in the race's Anger file.

This is one of the things that's set in the race's Anger file. I've had the same thing happen, and it's obviously due to your second point (i.e., the AI got upset when they saw all my colonies), because I was in 5th or 6th place at the time. My only complaint about it is that the AI still showed "brotherly" towards me.
BTW - the other possible reason for war between partners is the intel op "Communications Mimic", which always manifests as a declaration of war from one empire to another.

Re: couple of NEWBIE questions
These are all valid explanations but I saw the AI break treaties where I could rule out all these possibilities. More than that two turn later the same AI proposed a new treaty to me! I can exclude intel because I had tons of counter intel points available. It may be a random event but it happended "clustered" with several AI doing this within a year or so. May be after a certain time the AI get's tired of the treaty as it was coded somewhere by MM???

did the AI? If YOU get hit, you'll probably see a message to that effect. If the AI gets hit, you'll get a very simple message: "We declare war!"
