My new 2 player map! Please d/l and help me test it!
http://www.techno-mage.com/~dominion/Talis.rar
I can put it into zip format if anyone needs that if Gandalf would be kind enough to repost it in that slightly more friendly (yet bigger) packing method.
Here is the blurb:
Talis is a two-player map with 39 provinces. It is made for land only races. The graphics are based on a fan created D&D map that was posted for public use by Wizards of the Coast.
I created this map with the following uses in mind:
1) Good for new players to practice on since there are no complexities of water and games are relatively short compared with the many larger maps,
2) A balanced game that feels a bit more "chess like" by removing most of the starting luck but still allowing the main *feel* of luck that is part of Dom2 by not overdoing the hard placement of creatures, sites, etc..
3) A game that is small enough to finish in a 3 hourish time-span so nice for a network play session. I wanted it to be just big enough to get some nice strong magic going but not so big as to take longer than one session usually allows time for.
4) For PBEM use, it might be a nice way for newer players to practice via email without worrying about spending weeks in a large game that has long turn cycles and/or getting worried about appearing to be a newbie.

The map looks very good!
...I just have one small suggestion:
The underlying map is very pretty, but the borders are so thick and harsh that they are very distracting. If the provincial boreders could be... hmmm... thinner (much thinner, even), or softer, or thinner and light grey, or... just generally much less imposing, the map would look overall much more like it was originally intended, I imagine. Did you draw it all yourself?

P.S. I don't really see a reason not to add a couple ocean provinces, but it's your map...=)

You mean the board that the map rests on? Yeah I could just delete that if that is what you mean.
I'm a big fan of dark wood which is why it is in
Thanks for saying you like it, I'm testing it ins a network game right now and am having a bLast!
Kris said he'd post it at Illwinter too, so, hopefully it won't have to clutter up teh forum here.
edit: oh the PROVINCE boarder... yup, they are thicker than I'd likem... good point. I'm liking them more as I play the map. They are easy to see, that is for sure! I might thin them out but that is a lot of work at this point

I could try light gray and see how that looks, one tends to play this map very zoomed out due to how large the provinces are and that help them seem less thick.
No, I got the graphic from a fan D&D posting, the link to it is in the other thread where I asked for help in makign it.
You can download the map there and make your own lines

thanks ds I've been looking for a small map for one-on-one battles with the AI (I'm crap and I tend to get swamped late in the game on large maps)

I've been using this map for network games and it is great too!
You're very welcome and perhaps we'll meet on the battlefield soon
Let me know what you think of the balance and also of the Grand Wizard!
