Opinions on My First ShipSet
I just finished my first shipset and wanted to see what y'all thought about it.
Shadri.zip
(December 26th, 2001 - This file now includes all fixes and AI and fixes mentioned up to that date)
I also tried to meet the NeoStandard shipset, so there are about 50 Ships, the 4 Groups (Fighter, Fleet, Mine, Satellite), 3 Population/Race, Shield and Main pics.
Suggestions and comments are most welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Really nice work for a first shipset.
There is small typo. Shadri_Portrait_FighterHeavy should be named Shadri_Portrait_FighterLarge.

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Thank you for the compliments and for noticing the typo. I fixed it and reposted the corrected shipset below.
Yeah, DoGA was surprisingly easy to use, and between the tips Chewy & Zircher had and the SS Tutorial posted in other threads I was able to rip through it pretty quickly and start playing with a final product rather quickly. I would like to add some of the lighting effects I have seen to give some models lit hanger bays and such. Also, can you add textures? I haven't really figured either of those out yet.
Also, anyone know where I can get any part downloads for extra premade weapons and such? It isn't too hard to add additional catalog pages to the program and import stuff, I'm just hoping to save a little time

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
That's a really cool shipset. So what's all this buzz lately about DOGA? What Version are you guys using? Does the program make it easy to create ships in particular? Most 3D programs I've come across take some doing.
Val, were you a total 3D novice or have you had some experience?
Keep up the great work!

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Check out the following thread on making Shipsets:
Ship Sets:How do you do them?
I'm probably a pretty much average user, but have no previous rendering experience. DoGA was about the easiest program to use and it didn't take much time to get something to look how I imagined it. In my opinion it is a lot easier to use than Photoshop or PaintShop Pro. Plus, once you save a ship in a 'class' you can use that as the basis for the ships around it in the same class and just manipulate the pieces. Making the Racial pic was the most difficult thing and is something I'm still trying to make look more 'real'.

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Doga is a pretty easy program. Very nice and easy to use. I think pretty much anyone can jump right in and start using it without any background in 3D modeling.
A very nice ship set. It seems almost hard to believe this is your first shipset.

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
yeah doga is extremely easy to use. If you take a half an hour of time you can pretty much figure it out. Doga is specifically geared toward making stuff like ships so thats why it has become so popular recently.
As for the textures you really can't in doga other then what they have in the material editor. However, you can import textures from outside.

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Very nice Val. What Version of Doga are you using, L2 or L3?

Re: Opinions on My First ShipSet
Thanks again
I started them in L2 and then brought them into L3 after hearing (er.. reading) how much easier it was to create the black background in L3. I wound up remaking the Troops and Weapon Platforms once I brought them into L3 as well.
