Best way to get in range.
I am playing Tien Chi and I am being attacked by Caelum. (EA) He has an army of 40 or so Spellcasters who all fly and power up and cast thunder strike. The backbone of his army is about 10 Eagle Kings which I notice are magical beings....
I notice the nice little spell that Tien Chi has called Celestial Chastisement. Allows me to either harm (if they pass mr roll) or takeover magic beings (if they fail the roll) problem is that it only has a range of 15. And he puts the eagle kings in the back rank.
How do I get a few celestial masters to move forward with the troops to get in range? and how many attack orders would it take? Normally I would have to worry about the celestial masters flying in and getting wiped with an attack order, but he always has a storm going. So they would just run forward a little.
I would have to script air shield (he has archers accompanying him), Lightning immunity, attack, attack, then celestial chastisement. Of course after that I am assuming the combat ai would then cast buffs instead of the celestial chastisement. grrrr.
If I manange to get an eagle king with this spell would it be a troop or would it stay a commander?
Is there another long range spell that just targets magic beings that I could use on the battlefield to snipe his eagle kings?

Well, early era CMs fly, don't they?
Arcane bolt kills magic beings sometimes, but its not all that great, and doesn't hit very often.

That Celestial Chastisement will only work for magic beings that attack you. It won't help you much in this case.

Re: Best way to get in range.
yes, the cm's fly, but the storm will prevent it.
Ugh, having to be attaacked by the magical being before casting the spell makes it useless.
I will have to look at arcane bolt. I can outfit a few mages with eyes of aiming, scipt a few aiming spells and then maybe arcane bolt will target the eagle kings.
I suppose I could just land 10 or so soul slay and land a few terrors on his mammoth front line and watch them panick thru his spell casters.

Re: Best way to get in range.
I guess you could script: blink and Celestial Chastisement x4 and hope your mages pop into range. It would be really risky, damn near suicide but really cool if it worked.

I have not looked at the spell but i think what he ment was that they need to be in close range, not litteraly attacking you.

Re: Best way to get in range.
massing arcane bolt may work against a single super combatant or two, but not that many eagle kings. What about unravelling? You will need penetration boosters, but it could cause all those eagle kings to start decaying, and you have a chance of feebleminding them.

I agree with Cor. I doubt the game engine keeps track of what units have attacked what units during the course of the battle. If the spell says the unit has to be attacked, it's probably referring more to the small range of the spell.

Yes what I had meant was with the range that short you need to wait for the enemny to come to you, not you go to it. By attack, I meant as the magical beings try to attack your army, preferable troops that can resist the ebings attack, your mages are dirrectly behind trying to 'Celestial Chastisement' them.
