Serenity\'s \"Piracy\" Issue
This is a response to the locked thread regarding Serenity and his "pirated" copy of the game.
Give the man a break, his friend bought the game and before he decides if he wants to buy it also, he checked it out from his friend's copy. I don't see anything wrong with that. He said he would buy it, so in actuality the same event that is being called here "piracy" or not "proper" is contributing to spreading the word about Dominions and to increasing CD sales. It's free advertising, people.
I don't see anything wrong with what he did. I imagine that the developers would feel the same way, even. As long as he actually does end up buying the game, that is.
Personally, I let people make copies from my Dominions CD whenever they ask. And it is good for Dominions, not bad. People who would have otherwise not been interested in the game have learned how great it was, and in some cases, even ended up buying it themselves.
And even in the cases where the people didn't end up liking the game enough to buy it, I ask you -- who is hurt by their being able to play the game for a few weeks before becoming bored with it? Not themselves, not the public at large, not this gaming community, and not even the developers -- these are people who have seen the product in question and weren't interested in buying it, or in continuing to play it.
I agree that those people who really like the game should eventually end up purchasing it, and pressure should be put on them to do so. But pretending like someone was harmed or that some wrong has been committed in Serenity's case is rediculous.
