Possible bug I didn\'t find mentioned elsewhere...
Whenever infantry retreats/routs from enemy fire, it flees West. I am able to reliably herd enemy units closer to my units so long as they start east of my units.
Has anyone else noticed this? I am playing the DL version for now, though I plan to purchase the CD after payday.
Thanks for updating an old favorite!

They retreat towards their respective "east" or "west" sides of the map. If your nation starts on the left side of the map your units will retreat "west" if your nation starts on the right side of the map they will retreat " east"

Wouldn't it make more sense to retreat from enemy fire which broke your morale to begin with, then perhaps "turn for home" if your morale remains in the gutter?
I remember units used to surrender if you had them surrounded and they were forced to retreat again...now they run into your lines...just strikes me as somewhat odd.

Retreat direction has always be contentious in certain circumstances but it works just fine in 95% of the cases so has never been very high on the "to-do" list. This is one of those things that "fixing" those other 5% of cases involves some very serious alterations to the fundamental aspects of the game

They still surrender. I saw it happen in a test I was running last weekened. The will, however, sometimes run though your positions when retreating.

Re: Possible bug I didn\'t find mentioned elsewhere
To further claify
Units will surrender if their retreat is blocked but sometimes when a unit has high surpression it loses the ability to spot enemy units so what you can see sometimes are units in a blind panic to retreat and they don't "see" that their path is blocked by your units

Re: Possible bug I didn\'t find mentioned elsewhere
I have seen units retreat away from their retreat direction, if I have stop groups in their way. They retreat away from the firing, just as they would in reality.
