Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
I like strategy game. Both I had been play and would like to see future release of Space Empire with some good improvement.
1.Good music background for Starwar.
2.One of the spaceship has the ability to prevent enemy ship from moving away while he(enemy) is under attack. I always thrill when I catch the enemy with this ship.
3.When resources go to 0, ship will be automatically scraped one by one till the resourses is enough to cover all the expenses. The resourse planning is quite uniques and I take a long time to understand how it work. It is quite interesting parts of Rebellions
4.Subotage in Rebellion is rather good way of perform. We target the planet facility for the ease of groud troop to attack. Those special forces for abducting, subotage, patrol are unique troops to performs. Quite an interesting when I paly Rebellion.
5.Character with special ability like Lukewalker and others to help to accomplish the mission.
Above merely my suggestions for Space Empire, wish the designers take notes or try on the Rebellion and collect the ideas for next release.
Thank you.
Regards,
Mtc

Re: Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
When I bought Rebellion, I did not really understand what it was I was getting. After the long learning curve, I finally started to enjoy the game. So much so that I bought a second copy just incase the first one got damaged.
Then over time, utilities came out that would allow you to modify nearly every aspect of the game. Some of them were really neat to play around with.
Then came games like BOTF and Armada. Armada stank. BOTF was fun, but lacked something I can't quite put my finger on. (oh ya, huger than fricking god galaxy size. The game was limited by its size and lack of support from Microprose)
Then, in a year or so came the beta for SEIV. Another addictive game to say the least.
Bottom line is this. I loved Rebellion, it had so much to offer, but was limited to two empires.
SEIV, would benifit from the 3d combat engine, the DO NOT ENGAGE feature, and some other minor improvements based off of Rebellion, but overall, it is a damn fine game with a lot to offer that Rebellion could not.
SE IV can be easily customized. Easily Modded, and is support 10 x better than any game I have ever bought except for Quake II.
To compare Rebellion to SE IV would do both games a grave injustice, and I am not up to that task.

MMMmmmmmmm.....SimCities (gets warm fuzzie feeling)
Seriously though, I liked rebellion, especially how the enemy can pop up on ay of your worlds. Really brought home the idea of a large galaxy with open space. I thought the game did better with mods based on the West End Games RPG. I was dissapointed with Rebellion's lack of ability to show hyperspace fighter raids without having a capito ship present.
Rebel carrier jumps into system, but out of sensor range. It then launches fighters which commit a mini jump to their targets. The fighters raid targets and then jump out to a rondevouz (sp?) with their carrier, and hoepfully the Imperial cap ships don't trace their vector back a follow them.
Also the ability to capture ships, have ships defect, and the ability to ambush shipping lanes for materials would have been neat.

Re: Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
As SW fan, I have enjoyed a lot Rebellion.
But... (I love this word!), the Rebellion's AI was a piece of cake!
Most of people here, moaned about the SE4 AI (sometimes I was included), well in my view, comparing SE4's AI with the Rebellion's AI, is like to compare the Einstein with Forrest Gump!

Re: Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
For me, Star Wars: Rebellion had one fatal flaw, and that was "real-time". Even at the slowest play setting, I couldn't keep up with all the events. I got so frustrated with it that I never finished the first non-tutorial game I played.
Rebellion also had the largest swap file requirement (150M free on the HD) of anything I've ever installed, by almost a factor of 2.

Re: Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
For me one of the thing that is better in Rebellion is:
For espionage/sabotage/civilian turmoil, you need to send special troops/personages to the specified planet. Also, they can be caught.
In SEIV, you can't even select the planet you want to attack with inteligence forces.

Actually you can, but you have to have seen the planet (ie visited the system or seen it through partnership) before you can target it specifically. (Since I so rarely use this tactic, someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Re: Space Empire 4 Vs Star War Rebellions
One thing that Rebellion did that I really wish SEIV could do is Planet invade. Right now, the AI, even when set up to CAPTURE a planet, still glasses it instead of capturing it.
