question concerning troop modding
what do i need to do to either create infantry units, or have them (or just small troops) available at the very beginning of the game? what file do i need to alter, and what all do i need to do?
i have NEVER modded anything in my life....but this i would really like to have in this game
thanks

Re: question concerning troop modding
there is a good example of this in the Porportions Mod.
to make troops available at the start, edit the tech areas file and change the starting level of troop technology to 1 (or the increase level to 1, if you want them available for a medium tech start). you will also have to change the starting or increase level of the prerequisite tech, which i think is 'construction' but it might be 'industry'
to make infantry, or small troops, you can edit the vehicle sizes file to create a 1KT troop, and edit the components file to create a combination cockpit/weapon for him that masses 1KT.

Re: question concerning troop modding
What puke says
That system works well in the B5 MOD.
Democracy? Bah! A few infantry to knock rioters heads in does wonders for morale and production

Re: question concerning troop modding
Careful with infantry: troops affect happiness by quantity, not quality. Put 200 infantry on every planet, and you will almost never drop from jubilant again.

Re: question concerning troop modding
The thing about Proportions is I think he modified the file so troops don't improve happiness.
Geo
Edit: Meant to say "he" not "we". I had nothing to do with Proportions myself other than playing it.

cant that be modded by happyness type? peacefull / warlike / neurtal? could you make peacefull types suffer from troop presence and warlike benefit from it? i know some of it is dictated by global settings, but could you make enough of a tweak to the happyness types so that it would offset the global setting?

Yes Puke, that is all controlled by the happiness files. http://galileo.spaceports.com/~kazha...l#Chapter%2013
