Default A quick question about developing...

They have A WW2 edition of this game, and the MBT version of this game.

Any chance they could come up with A say...colonial times version?

Time span from 1700's to about 1900's?

Unfortunately no, as the system doesn't really support it. Same reason no one has ever delved into the Great War.

If you're not familiar with Age of Rifles be sure to check it out. I'm pretty sure you can still find it on abandonware sites. It'll scratch the itch for pre-20th century warfare.

Our games are modern armoured warfare.

The OP wanted games in the linear warfare period - which hex style maps really don't do well for, other than perhaps if counters are battalions or larger. Hexes do unconvincing 'wiggly' lines for those games that try to do tactical linear warfare (A unit is a brigade or battalion represented by 16-30 or so 15/25mm model soldiers, or a Kriegspiel block). Linear warfare needs something like the following ongoing development (Ancients, but the engine would do for the horse and musket era post medieval right up to the Boer War) http://ancientarmies.co.uk/blog/

Cheers
Andy

The closest to the game he is asking for I can think of now is UMS. (but not THE same) The first one and the third one. You can pretty much set any battle from ancient times to 19th century.

Finding any of the games will prove extremely difficult. I used to have the first two but no more
I never got the third one but from what I heard it is more like an extended remake of the first one.
I am talking about old games, the first was made in 1987 or something and the third (last one) in 1994 or 95. With all the problems this brings, like GUI, graphics etc. Still, great games.

If you want more, you will need to go even further back, to the early days of SSI. Great games, but if you are used to crazy things like the mouse or colours, you might have issues with them. (or even finding the games of course)

I imagine one could hack a few OOBs and scenaria using the Horse and Musket engine.

I imagine you could do WW1 and russian civil war fine enough. Earlier than that and things start really creaking

There is Civil War Generals 2 by SSI an excellent turn based game.

Good graphics for it's time.

I got the Cd but would never part with it.

Still a great game after all these years.
