Re: T90s

OK, just found this on Tanknet, it would appear that the Indian forces used hybrid rounds made from Russian penetrators and indigenous propellants:

Re: Warsaw Pact and TI

As far as I know and am able to find right now, the first TI tank sights used on Russian tanks were made by Peleng (now as PO1-KO1 model) from Thomson (now Thales) Catherine-FC-series IR cameras and...

Re: Red Army = most effective force !

People, just found an essay regarding nuclear weapons drawdown that sheds a different light on that "nuclear demolition charges" business:

Re: why buy armor?

Well, as Robert says, tanks have over ATGM units the advantage of mobility, armor and more fire opportunities. SPMBT is very unforgiving with the firing rate of ATGM units, so they can be used nearly...

Re: T90s

Anyone here knows which 125mm sabot rounds the Indian forces use? That could be helpful in figuring out what they'd be worth against Khalids.
Recent Chinese rounds come with awesome stats (probably...

Re: Red Army = most effective force !

Marcello, I think we can write off the advance planning argument in the Cold-War-Germany scenario, don't you? If we are assuming a fixed NATO forward defence against a Soviet push, then the NATO...

Re: Cold War 2020 mod: first release!

Yup, mostly it will, sorry. That's why I recommend installing a second 'clean' version of the game alongside your main 'work' one.
It takes less than 350Mb more, and you'll also have a certified...

Re: Advancing off side of map

Apparently you can force IA units out of the map using V-hexes. I inadvertently tried that in one of my early scenarios where I had put some high-value V-hexes on the edge of the map (grey hexes), on...

Re: Red Army = most effective force !

I'm not sure that "generations" would do it all re. ERA stopping power. Bear in mind that some modern "new-generation" ERA packs are lighter and less efficient to suit lighter vehicles.
Anyhow, I...

Re: obat36 East Germany

That's maybe a bit far-fetched, but couldn't this be a typo? The book mentioned should date back to 1980-81, right? That's about the time when the first T-72s should have become available in GDR if...

Re: Cold War 2020 mod: first release!

Thanks for the feedback, Gooseman!

If you want to try it out (that's what it's meant for after all), better install a second clean game version alongside your main one, it takes only a few hundred...

Re: Modern Russian guilded AFV Ammo

Looks like the Arkan-based 115mm missile is heavier, I think the previous versions were saboted 100mm missiles.
Anyway there are at least two or three versions of the missiles for each launcher...

Cold War 2020 mod: first release!

Hello folks!

Here is a little Christmas gift for you all: (http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/WinSPMBT_FILES/CW2020mod_RC0.5.exe)

First public pre-release of the Cold War mod I have been working...

Re: shooting an ATGM while moving.

I may be fooling myself, but I have experimented with that a little bit (mainly to get a higher ROF for fire-and-forget missiles), and it turns out that you can get a fire-on-move opportunity at very...

Re: Great Job - but how to do?

Which program to use is up to you, I personally rely on bad ole MS Paint ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif) for icons.

First thing to do to keep the game standard is to...

Hmm, silly as it sounds, it seems that that monstrous two-barreled SPG was indeed a prototype for a new-generation MBT...
Still, it was apparently a 70s post-MBT70 experiment relying on the...

Kitbash!

Aren't most of these kits about late-WW2 prototypes that were actually produced in very small quantities (like the Maus and the T95)?

Only the "Leopard-III" looks postwar (oh, and the Jaguar KwK,...

Thanks for the info, that's really something!

Only bear in mind the fact that...

You're looking at an embargo tank, made mainly from US parts (why bother reinventing the wheel when you have plenty spares lying around?). Make that an Abrams or Patton!...

Re: AP rounds fired by arty

Thanks for the update, Andy, I didn't know the fuse technology had changed so much over time.
Considering this, most old HEAT warheads (say, up to and including the PG7VM) should go off at a whim,...

Re: AP rounds fired by arty

Regarding the sensitivity of HEAT fuzes, I'm not sure that the material hit is very relevant at the impact velocities considered.
Think about the "necklace" of the Merkava Mk3/4: there are simple...

Re: Future European Combat Systems (Germany + Fran

Modding the Marder-II, you mean? You're well aware that what is left of the program is a field trials testbed rusting away in a tank museum? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Future European Combat Systems (Germany + Fran

Well, the Marder-II would have been an impressive thing, but it was certainly too expensive and not deployable enough for post-cold-war contingencies. I've never seen it mounted with missiles tubes,...
