Smile Re: Whats the appeal?

Hi John,
Read your piece with great interest. We agree with most of your deductions on the game differences. We bought both CD's years ago but spend 90% of our precious gaming time in WW2. Age...

Re: fixing infantry in the campaign mode (experience)

Even a cadre of a couple of guys can get newbies up to speed pretty quickly.

Re: Is it time for...

This reminds me of Avalon Hill's "Squad Leader", great game, but they just had to upgrade it to a newer, more realistic and prettier version and ruined the game. I get a headache just thinking of...

Re: mounted guns destroyed by artillery

Gamey, maybe a little. But I remember reading some accounts of the Germans retreating in France in 1944, if the Jabo's were spotted in time, passengers would run for roadside ditches or trees. So...

Re: mounted guns destroyed by artillery

Sometimes when there is a lot of artillery landing, and planes flying around and I have to move that mortar. Keep the vehicle and mortar in the same hex, load the mortar, move as far as possible and...

Scouts and stealth

Are scouts any more stealthy than another 4 man size "0" unit. I like to use ATR units as scouts, sometimes they get lucky and nail a half track or armored car, but are they as stealthy as a regular...

Re: which WW2 books are you reading?

James Hornfischer's "Neptune's Inferno", though it's a naval book, it's probably the best one on the naval battles around Guadalcanal, a good read.

Sabot rounds

Toggling sabot rounds would be nice, sometimes my tanks shoot sabot's automatically at targets that I would personally hold off on, and save them for a more dire need.

Re: Strange (to me) artillery mechanism

I noticed this also but thought it was legitimate, maybe the mortar crew triangulates from it's previous position. But now Don is going to fix it, too bad.

Re: Surrounded

I did not mean automatic "surrender", but certainly some extra suppression points for being in a lousy situation.

Re: which WW2 books are you reading?

Try "Retribution" by Max Hastings. The last year in the Pacific war, redone again, but with different insights and a focus on not well known events like Manchuria, worth the money.

This is probably a lot...

Are terrain modifiers cumulative, does it pay to put a trench on rough terrain?
