Re: Soviet infantry bt vs. infantry/tanks

If you feel challenged on the AT weapons, keep in mind that your force is already better stocked than an actual historical Red Army rifle battalion. The best AT armament in such battalion was a...

Re: Addressed to Nobody in Particular but

I had not earlier on been very interested about the concept of that campaign, but ended up giving it a try yesterday inspired by this thread.

After I got hang of the things, it ended up being...

Re: Addressed to Nobody in Particular but

I have also been playing a number of games set in Poland in 1939. There are a whole bunch of interesting scenarios in game for that.

For historical actions, there is also the Winter War between...

Re: Villers Bocage 1944?

Blackcloud6, I hope you enjoyed the game! It is certainly a great scenario and offers quite some challenge.

I would certainly recommend giving it another try. It is possible to take Hill 213 with...

Re: Germany OOB 16: miscellaneous comments

If they are Cossacks, then I can understand them being more motivated than your average former Red Army PoW that got volunteered to fight for Germans, and better riders than your average German...

Re: Germany OOB 16: miscellaneous comments

3.) Ost Kav Sqdn (formation 415) and Ost Kav Trp (formation 416) have experience modifier of 15 and morale modifier of 0. This sounds rather generous compared to Ost Inf formations, which typically...

Re: Villers Bocage 1944?

Cromwells with 75 mm guns will have trouble penetrating the frontal armour on Tiger I (though they can do it with a lucky hit), but against side armour at close range they can be effective. And...

Re: How to Close Assault?

I also would not count too much on tank riders to protect the tanks from assault, since a vily opponent will use small arms fire to force the tanks to button up before they get within close assault...

Re: Villers Bocage 1944?

It is certainly an interesting scenario. I have played it through at least once, not sure how well I scored in the end.

Certain caution is certainly to be recommended, since the terrain is quite...

Re: Soviet OOB 11: miscellaneous observations

Thanks for the list! I must admit that I have not really spent much time playing with Slovak, Czech or Polish LWP forces, so would have probably never spotted those on my own.

Re: Soviet OOB 11: miscellaneous observations

Thanks for the info, I was not aware that it was by design.

Out of curiosity, are there other infantry units out there that have been designated as size 2 by design?

Re: Soviet OOB 11: miscellaneous observations

9.) Conscript squads (units 228 and 229) are size 2, even though they are regular infantry squads. Should probably be size 1 instead.

Re: Soviet OOB 11: miscellaneous observations

8.) Conscript co (formation 115) has morale modifier of -10, while Conscript Pl (formation 134) has morale modifier of -8. I presume both should be the same.

Re: My recon planes are always shot down!

On advance and assault battles you can do this as preliminary bombardment if you want to - and if you use level bombers they will not be available for a second run later on. (They probably will not...

Question: Assaults

Re: Assaults

This might be the problem. After pressing the W key, you need to select the weapon by selecting a number [1-4] from the keyboard - clicking with mouse does not work in this case.

Re: My recon planes are always shot down!

Having served in AA unit in military, I do not see anything unrealistic with frontline AA weapons being high priority targets for artillery.

In game the spotter planes cannot call artillery fire,...

Re: My recon planes are always shot down!

What Mobhack said. Spotter planes are slow and not very robust, and the spotting runs take quite a lot of time - thus allowing any anti-aircraft weapons close enough to take a lot of shots at them....

Re: Italy OOB 34 corrections/suggestions (v.8.1)

On an unrelated note, I happened to be taking a look at Italian weapons today, and noticed some odd values. Here is a list of them - these should be pretty straightforward to handle.

1.) Weapon 12...

US OOB 12 very minor comments

I would like to list here a few tiny details that I have by chance spotted lately on the US OOB.

1.) Weapon 35 (75mm M1917 FG) has warhead size 5 and HE kill 7. Other 75 mm guns in this OOB have...

Re: Defeated at Halfaya Pass.

I presume that you are referring to scenario number 33?

I have not played it myself, but looking at the design notes the defensive Brits cannot have massive amounts of artillery at hand.

Do you...

Re: Force Morale

Also notice that if one side is broken and holds no victory hexes, the game may end prematuraly (before the full number of turns is completed).

If you are playing a campaign game, this might not...

Re: Polish OOB

And since the edit option seems to be having a day off, I would like to point out that the "75mm wzos/26 FG" under item 5 was actually supposed to read "75mm wz02/26 FG".

Re: Polish OOB

And some other odd observations I also did:

4.) Unit 469 (7.92 wz.08 AAMG) has unit class "Flak". I would expect it to rather be "Infantry AA MG".

5.) Unit 410 (75 mm Inf-Gun) is armed with...

Re: Polish OOB

Some observations I made from the Polish OOB:

1.) Weapon 23 (47mm Vickers) has HE kill 3 (other 47 mm guns tend to have HE kill of 2).

2.) Weapon 119 (47mm wz.25) has HE penetration of 0 (other...

Question: Towed Guns

Re: Towed Guns

By my understanding it should not - the gun is still treated as being moving during your opponents turn.

From a tactical perspective, it is usually desirable to unload your towed guns in a hex...
