Re: Off topic: How are games failing you?

Some of the 'bands (Angband family of the roguelikes) provide alternatives for stat selection: rolling (with target values pinned to certain stats) or points assignment.

I'm going to have to try...

Re: Yang: Newbie game EA CoD defaults - New Game

Good thinking.

If you still need players in another couple of days, then I'll join. My preference is not to use the full CBM, but I'm amenable to WH and CB Gods.

Re: Vista/Dell Memory Parity Error

I think archaeolept's earlier suggestion about the video drivers (or Dedas' suggestion: hardware; in particular, video card) is worth checking into. Dom 3 is likely to hit the main memory in the same...

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I like your game concept: vanilla play and random map. If you are still looking for more players a couple days from now, then I'll join. And, you can then randomly assign me any nation that is left,...

Thanks.

Computer Syntax Highlighting for Vim

Greetings,

After searching around the forum, I was not able to find any syntax highlighting for the Vim editor. I did find support for Emacs, and so I figured it was high time to bring balance to...

Re: Surviving Armageddon

:D
Clever.
Who needs to consult the source code when it is obviously the very high (higher than a kite) THC bless strategy at work?

Re: Dom 3 Limericks?

I think this may be why some cultures value the purity of virgins for reasons other than blood sacrifice. ;)

Re: First time MPer looking for game!

Thanks for introducing me to Dwarf Fortress, Tifone. Looks like I'm going to have a use for Windows XP again. :)
I'm a former Angband (and variants thereof: *band) addict, and so this looks like it...

Re: Attack rearmost - how does it really work?

OK, Illuminated, I think I see what is happening in your test case. The number of attacking and defending squads seems to matter. In my earlier tests, I had 1 attacking squad with 2 defending squads...

Re: Attack rearmost - how does it really work?

I did my testing with one squad of fliers set to immediate "Attack Rear" orders rather than "Hold and Attack Rear". Maybe there is some difference because of that, though it seems unlikely...?

Re: Crossbows vs. Longbows

I've wondered that as well.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that a properly trained Welsh or English longbowman could achieve a greater rate of fire than a continental crossbowman or...

Re: Curious about Dominions? how the AI thinks? which AI is best/worst?

'Twasn't me. Might have been VedalkenBear.

Still good to know. Thanks.

Re: Attack rearmost - how does it really work?

Well, Jim, my thoughts were much in the same direction. But, then I tested....:)

Setup
(1) Defender army given two squads of Mechanical Men.
(1a) One squad co-located with commander and set to...

Re: Attack rearmost - how does it really work?

Yeah, I've also seen both of those behaviors as well.
Running with "-dd", the debug output doesn't show too much about how targets are chosen. It does mention that the squads are following the...

Re: Curious about Dominions? how the AI thinks? which AI is best/worst?

Of course, they weren't really hidden. They reside in the same part of the executables as the other long opts.

Re: REAL NEW BUG-- Iron Will casting removes blessings

Ah, it does absorb non-battlefield damage. That is one of the things I was hoping (but not actually expecting) to get out of the bless. I'm glad the IW crew pays attention to such details. Thanks for...

Re: File Hosting services

Hi,

Was there ever a follow-up on this? I am seeing the same thing with a S9 pretender. My prophet shows Twist Fate, but a mage with the shroud (#54) does not. Playing version 3.21 (Nov 5 2008...

Re: Attack rearmost - how does it really work?

I don't know how the algorithm works, but pg. 74 of the manual makes it sound like ZOC could be a consideration. The edge of one formation passing by another one may get tangled in its zone of...

Re: Beginner's Guide to EA Arcoscephale

Thanks for the clarification, Max. This is definitely more what I had in mind and definitely not pixel distance. Also, I was hinting that radius was perhaps difficult to measure in certain regions of...

This is not wise.

Actually, when I invoked this generally unwise metric, I was thinking of Chris specifically, having read...

Re: Beginner's Guide to EA Arcoscephale

Chris, I hope I'm not being too anal[ytical] about this, but I think that r is r(t), and that we don't necessarily know the form of n(t) or r(t). Looking at your number of posts, I'm guessing that...

Re: Early Arcoscephale - Ephebophilia incarnate

I find that a handful or two of chariots can plow over most indies without breaking a sweat - and I play with indies set to 9. (Elephants and heavy cav can be a bit problematic without some...
