Default PBEM Campaign Repair Points

Currently, the loser of a battle gets about half the repair points of the winner.

The main problem with this is that the loser probably suffered greater material losses, and is probably the inferior player. After the first battle the loser will have the additional disadvantage of fielding an inferior force. Therefore, the loser will quickly dig himself a hole that he can’t get out of.

Keep in mind that in a regular PBEM Campaign against the AI, the AI always gets full repair or starts the next battle with a complete force.

Our goal in a PBEM campaign should be to provide humans with a series of challenging battles, despite the likelihood of different skill levels.

My suggestion is to reverse the current situation, and actually give the winner half the repair points of the loser. The winner is probably the better player, and likely suffered fewer casualties, and therefore should be the one to have a handicap.

This will make it more challenging to maintain back to back wins; and gives the loser a chance to make a ‘come back’.

Both players will still need to play conservatively and balance victory against casualties. A win with high casualties is not so appealing; and a loss may bring you more repair points but this must be seen in light of the ultimate plan of winning the campaign.

Thoughts…ideas?

ps. I am writing this from the winner’s perspective; I’ve won all my PBEM campaign battles and it just feels wrong to quickly dominate the battlefield.
