OK, suppose you have a basic Mineral Miner I that mines at a rate of 800 minerals per turn. That's really only the rate you'd get on a 100% mineral planet, though - to get the real production rate, you have to multiply the miner's rating by the planet value (and a few other modifiers). So on a 150% planet (the maximum you can normally find) your 800-mineral miner would produce 1200 minerals... but on a 5% planet, it would only produce a puny 40 minerals. The same goes for organics farms and radioactives extractors, except they use the organics and radioactives values respectively.

If you want to know about the other modifiers, basically, you also get a bonus if your population is happy or jubilant, a penalty if they are angry or unhappy, no resources at all if they are rioting, various bonuses for different amounts of population on the planet, and special modifiers from facilities and racial traits.

Does that help?

about the dumping of planets: Try Imperator Fyron's Quadrant mod- it adds all kinds of new and interesting map types, and makes moons a lot more interesting.

To ge tthe mod just find any post by Fyron and click his sig- or go to www.spaceempires.net - it should be well signposted from there.

I'm glad this thread exists, because I have a related question. We all know resource storage stores resources (of course). But does the facility allow the empire itself to have a larger storage capacity or does the actual facility hold the resource. In particular if I capture a planet with, for simplicity, a single mineral resource storage facility I know the other empires storage capacity goes down 20,000. But what I want to know is along with my storage capacity going up by 20,000 because I have an extra facility, do I actually get the 20,000 resources stored in that facility?.

My guess it that you won't get the resources stored in that facility, because I don't think the game keeps track of how much resources belong to each particular facility. But I haven't tried it so I'm not sure.

Resources are stored globally, not on a per-planet basis. You only lose stored resources if you lose enough storage facilities to bring the overall max below the current stored total.

Dumping tiny planets can be done by removing them from PlanetSize.txt. Make sure to work in a mod folder, not on the stock data files! But if you do this, you absolutely must edit SystemTypes.txt to remove all references to Tiny planets. Replacing them with small works. If you do this, you can not use Bad HW start, as sometimes a moon will be selected as the HW. If this happens, then the "planet" in the sector will be used as the HW, and will NOT be changed to reflect your race's atmosphere and planet type. Next, you must go into Components.txt, and find the entries for the planet making and destroying components. Decrease their Ability values by 1. They work on position in the file. If you remove Tiny planets, then the highest levels of these components will be able to destroy Ringworlds, as well as create them from Huge asteroids, as the position in the PlanetSize.txt file is now one less for every planet size.

An alternate (and probably better) method would be to modify the entry for the Tiny planets, making their stats the same as those of Small planets.
