My dad suggested recording cicadas and using them as a sound effect in a sci-fi game...
So I present for your enjoyment, the Cicada Beam!

Seems like they have been working underground for 17 years to train these buggers to attack GWB.

Hey!! I don't want any more bugs on my computer! I have had my share of them and I intend to keep them out of my beloved machine until the world ends!

ps. Ah, it came to my mind, that while certain insect can drive you nuts, you could make the weapon to infest living quarters of crew instead of making normal damage. Also perhaps some sort of wire eating stuff which could affect life support and bridge.
