SEV: Any point to killing buildings?
I just noticed in the strategies that you can attack buildings and facilities during ground combat.
Facilities I can see, but..does killing the building do anything? Maybe it kills extra pop?

Also, how does the attacker get fighters to the surface during ground combat?

Not sure if the buildings represent population... but it would be cool if they did...
If there are fighters in orbit they'll be included in ground combat - can't recall if this includes fighters stowed on a carrier though.

Yeah, I had grand plans of making troops to raid and burn enemy planets. Then I realized I could just nuke them from orbit.

 | I was thinking the same thing.

Targetting a shipyard would be useful, if you don't have the forces to take the planet, you could at least stop a counterattack.

 | I think you just need a ship with fighters in its cargo given a "Drop Troops" order. All other fighters in space/on carriers don't seem to participate. It means your best course of action would be to develop specific "Ground Attack" fighters that you would carry on your troop transports and equipped with your best anti-ground weapons. As long as the ship has no fighter launch bays they will land with your "normal" ground troops.

 | In SE5 can troop transports be programmed (without human tactical control) to land troops on a planet even when there are weapon platforms remaining on the planet? If so, then there could be mods (high planetary shields, weakish weapon platforms), where ground invasion could be the easiest way to take a planet. |

It's possible - but I wonder if the WPs will wipe the floor with the landed troops? |

It can be done, at least in the simulator. I'm not sure how it works in fleets, but in the sim the transport just charged on in with the rest of the ships.
EDIT: Kwok, WPs don't seem to be firing in ground combat..again, at least in the sim.

It's probably a factor that there weapons don't do ground damage... which makes this a very viable tactic I like it! |
