Re: Mod Info
How to make mods safely:
1) go to your SE4 folder.
2) create a new folder, eg: "MyNewMod"
3) edit path.txt, and change the one entry from ":= none" to ":= MyNewMod"
4) go into "MynewMod"
5) add any files & folders you wish to mod here.
So, your modded components.txt sould be in a folder something like "c:\programfiles\SE4\MyNewMod\Data\components.txt"
while MM's original components.txt is safely stored in "c:\programfiles\SE4\data\components.txt"
One you are safe from having to reinstall, you can play around with the modfiles.
To restore original SE4, just change the path.txt entry back to ":= none"
- no files need to be tweaked.
- abilities.txt is FYI only. SE4 does not read this file, since all the abilities are hardcoded.
- any files not modded do not have to be included.
- IMO, the best way to get started is to tweak components, and read abilities.txt for ideas.
- Ask specific questions on the forum if you have them, and they will be answered.

Re: Mod Info
Oh, don't forget the #1 bane of new modders:
DOUBLE-BLANK LINES.
If you have one, everything after that in the file is ignored.
Something similar; after the
--------
*BEGIN*
--------
bit, you must have one blank line between the dashed line and the start of the first component.
Otherwise, you'll get a generic "can't read xyz.txt" error.
