OT: This is very disturbing

Service Women Being Raped in Iraq on the climb and the US Military has virtually done nothing for them.

The women, ranging from enlisted soldiers to officers, reported poor medical treatment, lack of counseling and incomplete criminal investigations; some said they were threatened with punishment after reporting assaults.

This is absolutely unacceptable behavior and it angers me to no end!

I want to post more about how angry I am over this, but I need to calm down first. The Military mind set on this subject is unquestionably the worst abuse of authority and professionalism in some time.

I heard there were more than 80 cases.

Now realize that this is just like 'civilian' life -- it is estimated that 3/4ths of all rapes go unreported -- and yes, women are often punished in various ways for reporting sexual assault. So it's not that the armed forces are necessarily all that 'brutal and uncivilized' but that they are just like the population at large. Now you can get really disturbed.

And keep in mind that most of the command structure (at the upper levels) is male, so they do not really understand the trauma of the females being raped. So, they are not really the best trained/equipped to deal with the situation properly.

Well, if you read the article that I read, you would see that the assaults WERE reported and nothing was done about it.
