Default Anti-Wishlist

Im sure this will cause some discussion. Remember that if this degenerates into name calling and slander, the whole thread may disappear.

This is my list of things that people have asked Illwinter or Shrapnel to do, which I feel can be scratched off (or at least put behind other considerations). Nothing is listed here because it would be too much work. This is a list of things that are already done by Users, but maybe not in as friendly or immeadiate a manner as some would like. That makes the request for these move from "do this" to "do this better" which I think means it can wait abit.

Some are 3rd party add-ons. Others are done by making creative use of the command_line switches and some scripting, and some are being provided by Users in a way which is better than we are likely to see officially for awhile. Most of these have already been discussed on this forum so please at least try the "search" button in the upper right of the screen before asking in this thread how these are done.

1) A button to make screen shots, or screen saves.

2) save a battle as an uploadable and replayable movie file.

3) an option to play my own music, or replace the music being played.

4) multiple autosaves for games.

5) multiple game saves where I can name them and restore them.

6) saving multiple god files.

7) a timer alarm so I dont miss work.

8) have it make a sound when hosting is done cause my bud takes forever to do his turn.

9) Battle Simulator.

10) multiple directory support for things like maps and mods.

11) play over a lan with one CD.

12) random map generator.

13) random opponents.

14) tutorial.

15) better documentation.

16) a game-finder player-matchup site.

17) anonymous upload site where I can send screen shots and upload the mods/maps I do.

18) support chat area.

19) cheat codes.

20) reverse the order of the web-board postings.

LET THE FLAM.... I mean, LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Wait... you DON'T want these?

I'm sure a tutorial would be a lot of help for newbies. And randomize opponents would be good for quick games or people who don't have an enemy of choice (personally, though, I like to trounce Arcosephale) And reversing the order of the postings would help someone new to this forum.

On the other hand, I agree with you on the Battle Simulator and multiple game saves. Imagine simulating every battle before you fight and seeing the results before actually taking the field. Or being able to redo every bad decision you make.

While i agree with most of your cuts i think those above are almost essentiall to me, in addition they shouldnt be THAT hard to implent, especially 11) is really important for me to play over big lan events.

Maybe I wasnt clear enough. Everything on the list is a good idea to someone and I wouldnt argue that. But they are already done. Its available. Its just not a button from inside the game. Its something the Users themselves have already taken care of so why slow up the devs with it.

LATER if they feel like doing any of those or improving what we have then thats fine. I just dont see "making something easier" as being on the list equal with other things.

I think it is a really great idea to prioritize player requested features, which seems to be the intent here.

However, I don't know that a partially implemented Version of something that is very important...should necessarily be lower priority than something completely new but more peripheral.

This is just me, personally, but I would rather see a list of requests and then try and prioritize them in some way, noting which ones are partially implemented already through player mods, if that makes any sense.

16) a game-finder player-matchup site.
Would this be the same as a dedicated site that acts as a 24/7 server for running games (similar to what Mosehansen is doing)?

If you are saying that that should be OFF the wishlist for a game billed as "multiplayer friendly," I would have to disagree.

While the ability for players to host games on machines they are willing to run 24/7 has a certain DIY appeal, there really ought to be an Illwinter/Shrapnel/3rd-party-contractor site to host and run games.

Mosehansen could close up shop anytime he wants too after, all.
