Complete newbie can't get a scenario made to save his life ...
OK, I am not a newbie computer user, despite my apparent "issues" with the WinSPWW2 editor. As a matter of fact, I'm a CSS guru and developer of seven games in the iPhone App Store. So I can program and understand things (especially once my wife explains them a second time to me).
But for the life of me I can not understand the steps necessary to make my own little scenarios in WinSPWW2. I can make a darn nice looking little map for small engagements, but can someone please do a simple point form summary of how to get from a designed map to playable scenario in game? Pretty please? I don't see any info in the manual except that the map editor work needs to be followed by "create a scenario in the scenario editor" (page 44)).
Or perhaps point me to a tutorial or link?
Thank you for the time!

There are plenty of experience scenario designers here that can help you but perhaps you could tell us at what point you are running into problems ?
Have you read the "Scenario Editor" section in the HTML Game guide ? Click on the HELP tab of the Game Options screen and then click on " Read the Game Manual ". The "Scenario Editor" section is about 3/4 the way down the left hand listing
The booklet is more of a quick start guide

The editor is very easy to use. That will be where you set your scenario up. Start with the date for the battle and then onto the map. I recommend using the extended map editor, off of the main menu, it's handy "undo" will be the most important feature you will ever need, as laying roads sometimes take on a mind of its own . You can generate a map with it and then tweek it. Save it and then, back to the scenario builder where you now load your map, set your date and now choose opponents and purchase the troops. The rest will be history!

Re: Complete newbie can't get a scenario made to save his life ...
Start the game from the " main" menu , you will see the " Play SPWW2" in the bottom right corner. Start the game, once the selection has loaded you will see an " editor" button on the menu to the right, choose it and the editor screen will open. Load your map by choosing the " custom" button under the map selections and all the rest of the options should be self explainitory. There's an info bar on the top of the screen that will help you figure out what the buttons are for . Move your cursor over the options to get the info for each.

The Scenario Editor comes as a choice under the game main screen. See the large button entitled " EDIT" and try hovering your mouse over that and looking at the information in the hint line at the top of the screen where it says "Build, Edit and Save custom scenarios"....
It really is a good idea to read the Game Guide (AKA "Manual") to find out about the game!
- See the Section entitled " Main Game Screen", and the box describing the buttons available. Press the Link on the Left Hand Side of the display marked "Main Game Screen" to get to this section.
- Either press the blued link in that box marked Editor or the LHS link marked "Scenario Editor"...

That's strange, since the scenario Editor section has this text in it, near the top of the sub-section marked " Scenario troop deployment and editing" (in bold too)...
Quote:
Purchase is as for normal battles, but points are unlimited, as the troops on the table are what you decide
Deployment is basically similar to normal battle deployment with loads of extra features added on
Placement of troops is pretty much standard, it is the editing that differs
|
So
A) Purchasing is much the same as in regular games, which you will already have played before jumping into scenario design. Try reading the section of the Game Guide entitled " Purchase Screen", if not familiar with that process.
B) Deployment/placement Is basically the same as you are used to from playing a standard game. If not familiar, then read the GG section " Deploying Units". Also see the box with the extra deployment screen features available to you described in the Scenario Editor help section.
C) Eventually, you may want to try waypoints in your scenario design. For experienced designers only - see the GG section entitled "Waypoints".
If you have not played any normal battles, then do so to gain familiarity with purchasing and placement etc.
Main Menu Screen -> Battle Button -> etc (see the GG link " Playing a Single Battle" for help)

Re: Complete newbie can't get a scenario made to save his life ...
OK, I'm working it out now .. but a question ... I open the map editor and am faced with this large map (80x80 hexes?). How do I make the map that opens smaller ... perhaps only 50 hexes wide and 25 high? How do we adjust the base map size? Or do we simply paint the edges down until we get the size we want?

Thanks Imp. My old eyes are failing me. I completely missed those settings on the screen.
