Re: Ligeia - D2 v2.08 PBEM with RPG elements
I'd be interested in joining a PBEM, RPG elements or not.

Re: Ligeia - D2 v2.08 PBEM with RPG elements
Count me in as Ulm whenever you start!! Dorian_Hawkmoon74 at yahoo dott com . A few questions...
1. Can we bump Indies to 6 ?
2. Is communication outside of the game authorized or are we going to stay "in character" and in game for the entire session?
That's about it...other than that...I am very excited to be a part of this fantastic rpg at a strategic level!!!!!!!

Re: Ligeia - D2 v2.08 PBEM with RPG elements
It looks like we have many interested in a PBEM game, but no leader.
If it comes down to it, I'll "start" it up.
Anyone know of any 3rd party Dom2 game management programs? I was thinking of writing some tools to manage games/servers. It would be a PBEM manger that would allow admins to start PBEM games, and it would also email players when it was their turn. If I do decide to make something like this, I wouldn't hold your breath, as I haven't yet delved into the workings of the game.

I'm experienced to host one but it'll be more work than I like... It isn't complicated, just getting all the 2h file and sending out the trn files on time. And response when people complain .
Oh.. One thing, everybody needs a password protected god file. The host will be honest but it still runs better this way if every file is protected. For example, the host can mass mailing everybody all the files, instead of sending out different attachment for different player.
Or we could use a 24/7 game server. I think Mose Hansen provides his machine to host game for free. The game will run more smoothly this way, and less hassle for the host.
Bob (Thompson), what is the reason that you don't like Online game? It's the same as an email game, except that you don't need to send out the file manually - provided the server doesn't crash .

Sounds good. Can we nominate you as the organizer of such of game? Someone needs to get this ball rolling.
The constant game server idea seems nice, but don't you have to constantly check to see if the current turn has completed? This is what lead me to (thinking about) making an app that emails everyone when a new turn was ready in a constant server gametype.
One question I have about multiplayer PBEM games. How do you turn a player controlled nation to AI controlled? This is needed to keep the game rolling when a player aborts his nations (which ocurrs far too often). Does the game controller need to know the PWs of all players?

For a server game, it might be possible. But for an email game, it will be too much work for me to organize one.
For the questions: in a constant sever game, you usually set up a hosting time. It's the players' responsibility to check it on a regular basis, such as every 24 or 48 hours. If the hosting frequency is not too fast, it's not too much to ask for. Right?
The game controller can ask for the password. Or the player can set himself/herself/itself AI before leaving. But AI is never a good substitution of human player unless the nation has already lost and left with only a few provinces.
So, if a player decides to quit before it ends, it'll be a pain for everybody. The best thing will be to get a subsititue. In this aspect, an email game would be better as it's easier to stop the game and wait.

BTW, djtool is thinking of starting a game on Mose Hansen's server in another thread. We can all join...

Re: Ligeia - D2 v2.08 PBEM with RPG elements
Thanks Ywl.
Link to that game:
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...&f=74&t=001959
What typically happens when the player of a human controlled nation stops submitting turns and simply disappears (doesn't give his PW or set his nation to AI)?
Thanks

Re: Ligeia - D2 v2.08 PBEM with RPG elements
That game has rather unconventional settings though, and the server is linux based so battle replays are inaccurate for most people.

Also, if the master password is enabled by the host, he can go and change the nation into AI (or change orders, send inappropriate ingame Messages, etc if I've understood it correctly) if he so desires. And everyone trusts the host, right?
