You still have easy access to astral 1, which is where the most useful astral items are. I would seriously dump both astral and fire magic, to get magic 3, order 3, prod 3, and probably lose the water 9 as well.

Taking your suggestion to heart... The best I could do was a E6 Cyclops. With scales like that you are pretty much limited to a SC or immobile pretender. Even if your suggestion were the optimal way to play Caelum, it's so contrary to my playstyle that it would never work for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The lady of fortune makes a very competent SC, as long as you can get her a life draining weapon. Water gives you breath of winter and quickness, while nature gives you personal regeneration and elemental fortitude. You can also drop productivity to +1 or +2 if you pick a wizard's tower, and magic can probably be left at +2 as it has diminishing returns.

Maybe I'll give it a shot. Can't take too much Nature though, else my Seraphines go berserk which sucks

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
Not that this has anything to do with the original question or anything, but arent Caelum troops supposed to get better supplies in Cold 3? Or am I just crazy?

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
I believed that heat/cold affect the land and hence the food available. Food is the same for everyone (except for the trolls and such that eat rocks). However, I just did a search and saw one of the testers reported that supplies are based off preferred temp. Not sure what to think... my armies of caelum aren't drastically larger than my other nations' armies, and yet I'm taking around 10+ bags of wine with each caelum force, whereas I use 2-5 bags with the other nations.

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
There is no supply bonus for being in your prefered temperature. But a penalty for being outside of it. In the Dom2 Manual, Pg5 it has the difference of temperature scale effect on supplies.
-10% Supply per step out of preference.

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
I looked at the manual and there was no mention of preference. It just seemed that if you get 120 free points for cold 3, you have to pay some kind of penalty.

There's several reasons for this:
Firstly, Caelumians prefer a maximum cold climate. That means their supplies are penalized in any climate greater than cold-3. Most other races favor neutral climates, or even heat. Few races actually LIKE cold-3, and it's difficult to sustain a constant cold-3, so usually, you will suffer a supply penalty, unless you have a strong, and very cold, dominion.
Secondly, Caelumians are hungry. As size-3 people, they eat a lot. Mammoths eat even more! So a comparable number of Caelumians eats twice as much as an army of hunams! This is why you must carry twice the supplies.

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
Maybe it's not clear.
In the Nation Selection in the Flavor Text it will say your Nation/Theme's Temperature Preference. If a province is not that Temperature (either Cold or Heat) then you have a Economic and Supply penalty.
-5% Income, -10% Supply.
So if you look at Caelum, it has a Cold 3 Preference. That means in anything but Cold 3 enviroment they lose money and supply. So Normal Temperature they are at -15% Gold, -30% Supply. Heat 3, -30% Gold, -60% Supply.
Supply is based off of Province Population (do a search for exact #'s) and Supply Usage is calculated by Number of Units and Size of Units.
Did that clear up any confusion?

Re: Lady of Fortune Caelum
My confusion is that I didn't realize caelum are size 3 and thought that my supply troubles could not stem only from the deviation from cold 3 (this led me to believe that supplies were not based on preferred temp, but tax was). After a couple of caelum games, I started using heart of winter (and growth+2/3), but this still wasn't enough due to caelum's ability to fly deep into enemy territory.
In this thread, mentions supply usage: size-1, but the little guys eat just as much as humaniods.
