FWIW, my method lets you play around with individual units too. Ponder that for a moment.

Nothing new. Players have been doing that for years

Well, that will serve me right for not checking back regularly on my post.

Thank you! This will help me keep my sanity as I was doing the rename trick and editing the maps but would occasionally screw something up and lose everything. Argh! Right now, I'm building maps using the Custom Map Editor and then loading a particular map for the next scenario of the campaign. I'll probably still do some of that but sometimes the generated maps are pretty interesting so I'll (with the update) edit the generated map to spruce it up a bit for the scenario.

As a general note; I don't usually change the basic layout of the map because if it's not what I really want, I just generate a new map. What I do with editing is: 1) add houses and trees to a village, 2) add height to some of the hills, 3) put some bare ground on the hill slopes and around houses, 4) rearrange the trees, 5) add a road or two to the various villages 6) add names to the villages, hills and, the stream ford locations (I have darn good recon units!).

Something I need to remember to do is add damage and things like trenches, etc. to the maps as a lot of the battle locations in the Soviet Union (the area I'm working with) were fought over multiple times. Damage accumulated as did field fortifications and such.

Great game. Great people.

Thanks again,

Don Bennett
