Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
I keep a seperate folder for each PBW game. I then use the MOD Launcher utility to start SEIV and load the game.
The advantages are: I do not change the stock SEIV data, empire, or race picture files.
So I can play different MODs without them conflicting with each other. The MOD launcher remembers your Player number and password. My PBW game folders are easy to maintain. Since I have more than one SE4 Version on my machine, I can upgrade the game by simply dragging the game folder over to the newer SE4 Versions folder.
I have a seperate MODlauncher in each SE4 Version folder.
I'm not at home so I can not give you all of the details of the game folder.
1. It has a savegame folder
2. It may have a picture/race etc.. folders for the custom shipsets.
Note: There is no need to copy the stock shipsets.
3. It may have a data folder or other folders needed for a MOD.
4. Since it is PBW and your not the host, you will likely not need the Empire folder or the custom RACE AI that comes with custom shipset.
5. Good Idea to keep a text file with your password, and other players names, emails, empire names, and shipsets.
--------------------------------------------
OK, now to get my ZIP files open into the save game folder...
(setup is WIN98 + WINZIP + MOD Launcher)
...Warning ...start QS9000 procedure...
1. Save attachment game.zip to desktop.
2. Open Save game folder
2a. Right click on MOD Launcher Icon
2b. Click on Properties.
2c. Click on Find Target. It opens a folder window.
2d. Now close the MOD launcher properties window before you do something wrong to it.
2e. open the game folder
2f. open the the savegame folder.
3. Drag the game.zip file into the savegame folder.
4. Right click on the game.zip file and select "extract to".
5. Click on "browse"
6. click on OK
7. click on Extract
8. click on ALL to overwrite all old files.
9. Now you can left click on the MOD Launcher.
As with all QS9000 procedures, explanations and warnings are not allowed and you must follow the instructions explicitly. If it does not work with your setup then you must blindly follow the QS9000 winzip setup procedure MX2233874.BFG...

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
Hmmmmmmmm....
Two points:
1) No one actually said clearly to ditch the holding file in which the data files are housed.
2) In playing against the AI, the computer does not look at the "savegame" file to replay the battle.
Is this schizophrenic behaviour or what?
Another area where the Mac is so clearly superior...
What's that? What are you guys throwing at me? cabbages, tomatoes, turnips?

No, you are probably right. We all made assumptions. Chalk it up to the language barrier.
Nope, not schizo, just different. When you play a turn based solo game against the AI the game stores the files in the History folder/file/directroy instead of the savegame folder/file/directory. If you played a simultaneous turn hotseat game against the AI however it would save the files in the savegame folder/file/directory. It's not a difference in playing humans and AI, it's a differance in playing turn-based and simultaneous games.
