I don't see how you are going to a merchant without trade. Or be a pirate without stealing goods and have a place to sell them.
Gosh, I sure hope that Starfury is going to be as modable as I imagine it. I can already see a mod to explore the O&C universe, trade 20 different kinds of beer and mead, and get into a dogfight against some Vikings  .
