Default SJ: Re P&N mod.

SJ,

Regarding our conversation in the other thread about component specific mines...

I did some tests using the P&N mod, and the ion mines do work. However, and you probably new this already, once the engines are gone, the rest of the mines hamlessly blow up as well. Thus an escort could clear an entire minefield. Also, I didn't test it, but how would the ion mines react to a fighter? My guess is they would all blow up and the fighter would be fine, since fighters don't keep component damage.

One thing that suprised me though was that when I sent tow ships into the minefield, it wiped out the engines on both ships. I assumed they would use themselves up on the first ship. Apparently the game is smart enough to look for an alternate ships to damage, but not smart enough to stop blowing them up when there are no engines left all together.

I believe Shield damaging or skipping mines would be useless, since shields are skipped by all mines, unless they use the "Only Shield Generators" damage type. I don't recall if they do or not. However armor skipping mines would have some use, but would tend to leave intact hollow shells of ships, not worth capturing.
