I do this a lot when I'm doing tests of new versions of my mod.
I have a second save file (test.gam and test1.gam). When you process the turn, it will automatically update and resave the test.gam file. I get into the habit of saving to test1.gam before ending the turn. That way, I can go back if I need to.
