In general, any changes you make in 1.49 will be compatible with gold.

Some things such as Engines Only damage have changed, so keep an eye on the history.txt for the latest patches.

Upgrading your mod to Gold will be quite simple. A few search-replaces, a few added lines in settings.txt, and adding the alternate bitmaps for the vehicles.
Then you can play around with all of the new options available and expand your mod.
