Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
This game is great (despite, of course, the eternal challenge for a really competitive AI).
It is the most impressive and deep games I've ever seen that incorporates a mind boggling tech tree, socio/political events, foreign policy, leaders, resources, economics, production, tactical military deployment of forces (historic accuracy is exceptional).
This is money well spent, and the mods out there add value as well.
My biggest issue with the game is the inability (or rarity) of the Allies to really generate a D-Day in force event... rather it is normal to have the usual small scale annoyance invasions that aren't much of a threat. Playing as the Axis, the (AI) US must enter the war big-time to keep a good player in check.
My 2 cents...

This should be much improved in 1.06.

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
I just downloaded 1.06 and will give the game its duely earned attention now. I am so fricking board of all my other games, yes including SEIV, that anything would be welcome, even MOO3. *shudder* That is how desprite I am.

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
HoI, EU2 and SE4 are the only games on my pc anymore. 1.06 for HoI makes signifigant improvements, especially to the AI and naval combat. I have found the user community for the Paradox games is as pleasant and helpful as the one for SE -- shocking but true as far as I can tell. A lot of the HoI players play the CORE mod, but I generally play the "Starfire Historical Mod". If you are just starting to play HoI, I would suggest throwing out the manual and reading the FAQ instead, although I seem to remember a mod group putting together their own manual for "Vanilla" (stock HoI).
