Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
This game is great (despite, of course, the eternal challenge for a really competitive AI).
It is the most impressive and deep games I've ever seen that incorporates a mind boggling tech tree, socio/political events, foreign policy, leaders, resources, economics, production, tactical military deployment of forces (historic accuracy is exceptional).
This is money well spent, and the mods out there add value as well.
My biggest issue with the game is the inability (or rarity) of the Allies to really generate a D-Day in force event... rather it is normal to have the usual small scale annoyance invasions that aren't much of a threat. Playing as the Axis, the (AI) US must enter the war big-time to keep a good player in check.
My 2 cents...

This should be much improved in 1.06.

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
I just downloaded 1.06 and will give the game its duely earned attention now. I am so fricking board of all my other games, yes including SEIV, that anything would be welcome, even MOO3. *shudder* That is how desprite I am.

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
HoI, EU2 and SE4 are the only games on my pc anymore. 1.06 for HoI makes signifigant improvements, especially to the AI and naval combat. I have found the user community for the Paradox games is as pleasant and helpful as the one for SE -- shocking but true as far as I can tell. A lot of the HoI players play the CORE mod, but I generally play the "Starfire Historical Mod". If you are just starting to play HoI, I would suggest throwing out the manual and reading the FAQ instead, although I seem to remember a mod group putting together their own manual for "Vanilla" (stock HoI).

That's correct, but the Last time I played it, which has been awhile ago, there was at least one mod that changed that. I've been playing SEIVG more, but I'm getting like Atrocities; I'm getting less enthusiastic about playing SEIV and want to try something else. The main reason I play SEIV so much is that it's easier to hit the launcher program on my desktop and pick out a mod to play than it is for me to dig through my desk and find the cd-rom of any other game I wish to play. I already got HOI on my HD, but I'll have to get the latest patch now. Oh, BTW, this is from the same company that makes Galactic Civilization.

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
there is a no time limit mod to change the start date and also extend the end date till 2000 something (note--you can alter the start date--example start in 1934, but due to the patch the end date will always remain the same--2199 I believe.) it says for 105b but it works with 1.06 patch. another note--this mod requires you to alter a line in the scenario EUG file which is read only--make sure to change the file(so that its not read-only) before adjusting your start date. This can be done by right clicking the file file icon--and then hitting properties--and simply uncheck the read only attribute. make sure to save as well))). the patch can be found here;

Re: OT- Heart of Iron Game
So the game starts in 1936 and ends no matter what the out come in 1948? Man that seems very limiting.
SE IV starts in 2400 and ends in 2436. Would any one want to buy this?
