Yep, exactly. The way things are displayed in the game depends on what you have installed on your machine. Some shipsets have really awful colors and some are hard to tell apart. In these cases I have often changed the color of the race_main.bmp to make it easier for me to view.
The invisible or hard to see ships are easily replaced with generic ones.
