It is:
Space Empires by Committee
I have a game of SE4 started (turn 2400.0), and I will be punching in the orders given to me by the Ministers, Officers and Governors present in that forum.
There is an element of roleplay in it, and there are a few Roleplaying components that have been added to the game, such as "Officer's Quarters" for ships, and troop-based avatars to keep track of your position in the game.
However, the underlying fact is that whatever SE4 says happened, did. If your avatar gets blown out into space because a DUC shell hit your quarters, you are dead (and must start a new character, while others get promoted into your job). If a bunch of cargo gets blown out into space instead, be thankful, and bug the design minister to add more armor to your flagship
I believe most of the planning and discussion for 2400.0 is done, and I am waiting on the final orders from the planetary governors, and the end of the homeworld elections.
Puke has dibs on a homeworld if he wants it, but he apparently hasn't visited in the Last few days to notice.
The positions available at Se4 by Committee include:
- Senator (Has a vote, can try to influence others, form political parties, etc)
- Minister/Governor (Oversee a particular aspect of the empire, plus senator powers)
- Officer (Run the military; fight battles in tactical combat mode if present in the sector, plus senator powers)
Being an officer requires you to regularily be available on an instant messenger service, such as IRC, MSN, ICQ, or AIM. This is due to the fast paced nature of tactical combat in SE4.
There is the possibility of forming another class of military personnel, where you do not get to run tactical combat, but can still ride on starships, help out in ground combat, and gain experience, awards, fame and fortune.
