Hunkpapa; Well, for me, I build a SY (Shipyard) Ship. I send it to the location for 'remote' extraction. I then build a Base (the biggest one you have) loaded with remote units, which ever resource you want to extract. Of course this is good. Unitl you get Large satellites. I put the remote units on the satellites. Using the same SY Ship I build satellites. When the resource is gone, or you have finished extracting the resource, I take a Transport (with a couple satellite bays) and recover them and go to another site for extraction. Then launch the satellites.

For me this works!

Aloofim, is right. You do need to protect the site.

And what pray tell do you do with the expensive stations once the field is strip-mined? Do you take a spaceyard ship and recycle it? Personally, I tried the base mining once, and found it to be more expense than what it is worth, as compared to a ship that can move around from field to field as needed, and can run out the back door when necessary. I put them on sentry once in place, and as soon as an enemy appears, they haul arse the other way, often to a mine field for protection until an attack fleet can arrive, if necessary.

I still think it's a bug if they continue to mine after the supplies are gone. I doubt that is the intention of the game design, otherwise, why even have it use supplies. imho

(I am just going to have to test that before I can believe it. )

i personally like space station mining.

let's just say that station costs 20k (a big station) another 3k-4k maintenance that makes 24k + 10k for the ship to build and you are at 34k.

place it around an asteroid that does 260% minerals and you earn roughly 26k per turn, break even after 2 turns and then it is +20k surplus each round.

throw in stealth armor or cloaking and you got a space station that is not so obvious to your enemies. but beware of friends that try to mine the same spot as your cloaked station... that can ruin your income...
