Idea for those who want to search for Warp Points...
Is it possible to give a cloaking ability to a warp point? Not like what storms give to ships/bases inside them: cloak the warp point itself.
Say, lvl 2 cloak from all types. Or maybe random amounts? Since the AI builds recon sats as soon as it gets the right tech, they should be able to do that. I have no idea if this will work, just tossing it out and see what response I get.
Maybe a later patch can have a flag set for the game which lets a warp point be cloaked.

"I'd like to live -just- long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this..." *waggle* "...can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

Re: Idea for those who want to search for Warp Points...
Why not just replace the warp-point graphic with one that matches the background stars? Once you find them, the name of the connecting system would be shown...
but why would one want to "search" for a warp-point? Click Warp, Click edge (of screen), click warp, click edge, click warp, click edge.. click click click click click yawn...

Re: Idea for those who want to search for Warp Points...
I've experimented with cloaked warp points. The biggest problem is that a single system can only have one type of warp point (unless connected to a black hole). You either end up with all normal warp points, or all cloaked ones. Also, I couldn't figure out how to give a single type of warp point varying levels of cloaking.

In Starfire there have always been "open warp points" that are easy to find, and "closed warp points" that you can really only find when you come through them from the other side. This was originally introduced to deal with "on the fly" system generation during a game - if somebody explores a warp point and the die roll to determine where it leads puts the other end in a system that has already been explored by somebody. However, it ends up creating some interesting strategic situations, for example you find a warp point with a "closed" end in one of your opponent's "rear area" systems, or you retreat behind one to hide from an opponent much stronger than yourself. Another reason is that is slows up offensives if you have to spend a lot of time surveying the system you just conquered before moving to the next.

Re: Idea for those who want to search for Warp Points...
I am not very much convinced that naturally occuring cloaked warp points would add anything important to the game and I think the seaching for it would be rather boaring. However a technology that allows you to cloak a warp point artificially might be interesting in the late game, but i am not sure.
What I would like to occur more often, is the sporadic cloasure or even better the change to a one-way warp point. The latter happened to me once in a game and gave me quite a challenge because it was my strategic supply route!
