So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
Yes, it would be nice to have some great new ship sets. But given the bugs or need to strengthen the AI etc....whats the best mod at this time, I should consider ?

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
Yes, I'd like to know just this too --- don't care about looks, just interested in getting the best game out of the thing.
And an explanation (link) of where to get it from, how to install, how to use (e.g. do you have to somehow force the game to start with a certain new race? or does it affect every race?) and what happens when MM release future patch (after 1.19) would be *so* helpful...

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
MOD v 1.01 by several of the gamers here. and before loading it, make sure you have Version 1.19 of the game.
There are a bunch of others in that forum, but I'd start with this one and add the others as you learn the game or want to do something different.

this is in the MOD/download forum in a post by Tampa_Gamer

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
hmm, adding new race.
if the race style did not include a reademe (bad modder! ) then copy folder with the pictures and AI files to the pictures/races folder in the SEIV directory/folder. and copy the .emp file to the empires folder, if not then: start game, setup the type game ya want including the number of points available for each race), go to "add new race" go to the race pic (scroll arrow thingy at bottom) then fill in the blanks (hopefully MOD person has a AI_general.txt file to help with this), go to the other areas and click on the various attributes as appropriate (or as you want, just make sure you have enough points! ).
then, once all is setup the way ya want, start game. I would then slick on "save empire" in the quit game icon box. this generates that .emp or empire file I talked about earlier.
you should now see this race in the add existing race box when you want to start a new game.
hope this helps!

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
When you add these mods will the races ever be chosen when you allow the computer to pick a random number of computer opponents or do you always need to add them to the game individually?
To call me a novice in computer programming is an insult to all novices but I would like to be able to try some of these mods everyone raves about. I'm just very unsure of how to install them and use them.
Thanks

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
Marty. yes it will and any files (ship picture or AI file) that are not included in the race style should be picked up from either the neutral race files or generic race files or something like that.

Ha!! Well I *am* a non-novice computer programmer, and I can tell you it doesn't make it any easier to know how/whether to use mods I would like the answer to this one too.

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
Hopefully, MM or Shrapnel will develop a FAQ on how to install and use Mods in SE4. This is critical since most new SE4 players will be in exactly the same boat as the posters here.
I can only think that they are waiting for the dust to settle from the next patch, which will significantly change how mods are installed and used, to develop something along those lines. I hope...

Re: So...what\'s the latest and greatest MOD ?
Thanks guys.
Maybe they will just add the better mods right into the patch and the designers would get full credit of course
This game just seems to have so much potential that I hope Shrapnel/MM takes note of the many suggestions on this board and continues to improve it.
I just may have to try some of their other titles if this is an indication of the type of games they offer.

Here is quote from MM site Q&A section:
"60. I need instructions as to how you can create a race in the game from those downloaded from other sites or made by myself. I'm talking about those that have the AI scripts. When I enter the game and I'm creating a new game I'm not able to locate any of the races I've downloaded into their own folders in the Pictures/Races subdirectories.
When you download a custom race style from a web site, you need to create a directory for it in the SE4 \ Pictures \ Races directory. When you start SE4, go to New Game, then create a new empire. In the Empire Setup Window, on the General Details tab, there is a "Race Portrait \ Ship Style" selection. Pick the new race portrait you downloaded. A little farther down on the window, there is an item called "Use Race Minister Style". Set this option on so that it reads "Using style from race". This empire will now use all of the features of this custom race style.
If you're wondering how you get the race added to your Quickstart window, you need to open the file "Settings.txt" in the Data directory. In this file there are items titled "Quick Start Style #" which you can set to the name of the directory for the race style. In the first patch, we have extended this to allow as many races as you wish. "
Hope this helps.
