Windows XP problem with AST Mod
Hope someone can help me with this one...
Loaded SEIV Gold onto Win XP Professional machine. Works no problem.
Installed AST (Star Trek) Mod and then the games hangs itself while loading. Front load screen only gets to 4% and just sits there.
Anyone have any clues on what I can try. Same setup as above on Win 2000 doesn't have a problem.

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
What Version did you intall?
Complete - Has all the files and the Image mod
Full - Has all the files, NO image mod
Light - Has only 8 races, and no image mod.
Second did you install it directly to the Gold directory or did you install it into its own directory?
Are you using the mod launcher or a modified Path.txt?
Do you get any errors when the game starts?

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
Versions: SIEV Gold 1.84 (from patch 3).
AST Version 1.6 Complete.
AST Patch 1.7.
Installed directly to the GOLD directory (but to AST path).
Activated through the Paths.txt file.
No errors. Just stalls at 4%. When I Ctrl Alt Del the program says it is still running although occassionally it will flash as Not Responding for a split second then revert to Running.
BTW, this mod, from what I have seen is awesome. Congrats to you, Atrocities.

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
Does the game lock up before you get to the player set up options, or after you launch a game?
Just in case, check this:
1. Open the AST folder
2. Verify that there are the following folders:
AI, Data, DesgnNames, Pictures, Savegame, Mod Info, Empires, Credits, and Manual.
If you open the AST folder and see only one folder titled AST, then that is the problem.
Also do this.
Delete the AST mod folder and reinstall ONLY the AST Complete zip 1.6. Then start the mod via the Mod launcher or a modified Path.txt
If the mod works, then please post. If it continues to give you errors please post.

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
All the files were where they are supposed to be. It stops right at the start of the SEIV game - before any other screens come up, and before the play options appear at the base of the front screen. It literally freezes at 4%.
I'll try a few other things tonight to see what other parameters I can provide (not at home at the moment). I'll post again tomorrow. I'll try your suggestion about just installing 1.6.
Thanks for your speedy replies.

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
Good news. It's working now. I think it was more a problem with my computer than with anything else.
I tried installing AST to a different directory away from SE4. I tested SE4 to make sure it would work OK without AST and there was the same load error. This is wierd because AST was not associated with SE4 in any way this time. I'm thinking that my computer mustn't like Winzip or something else has caused a corrupt.
I re-installed the game and then installed AST to a different directory. I restarted the computer to get rid of any corruption and this time I just moved AST manually across to the SE4 directory. Via, we're in business!
I don't know why. But I'm pretty happy. I'm sure it isn't any problem with AST - just my computer.
Thanks for your help, Atrocities.

Re: Windows XP problem with AST Mod
Glad to hear it friend.
And remember, you can mod the hell out of the AST mod to fit your desires.
Try making some CompEnhancements (Mounts) for specialized ships. Lots of fun.
